I have a question about wheaten/blue wheaten. I have three if them. I was attempting to figure out if they were wheaten, bw, or splash. I went to the ameracauna website and looked at male wheatens first, and decided the two boys couldn't be wheaten. Then I looked at the bw's. no there also. My boys both have big, pretty, white beards. I never thought they were splash because they are colored more like a wheaten, but I don't know what to think about the white beard. Also, does anyone have a picture of a splash wheaten female? I am not planning on keeping these three. Their quality, seems questionable, although they are only ten weeks. I also was only able to obtain these three, two brothers and a sister. Now I have lavender and bbs eggs set and don't have space for all three. So....any pictures?

It may be easier if you posted pictures of yours. There is a lot of true experts on this thread that could give you a great opinion.

The wheaten family go through many color changes.The white beard on males is the last to color up.Sounds like good stock be patient on the beard color.They may be 5 months or more before the beard changes.

That is really good to know! I was really confused because the boys don't look like splash wheaten pictures I have seen, but I thought it might account for the white beards. I ran out to get some pictures of the boys and their sister:

Sissy would not come out from under the big girl coop, so I crawled under to get a pic of her. She is not impressed by the camera.

Sorry it's a bit pic heavy. I figured rather than ask for pics of others' birds, I should show my Santa boys

They all have darker red neck feathers, even sissy, but hers are less so. So they get more clearly read as they age also? I thought this would be the easiest color variety to obtain, but have not been able to get any other than these three.

How long does it take a roo to look like he will look at maturity and be ready to do "roo"ly duties?

Those look like wheatens to me. My boy had a white beard it seemed like forever. It finally changed...

Wow! That is an amazing change! I got to meet my birds' sire and thought he was very pretty, I knew the flowing main and hackle feathers would take time. I had no idea that the beards would change. I feel better now

I have got fertility from a 4 month old LF.He may not be fully mature or have his final look but fertility is there.

Can anyone tell me if this is a true Ameraucana Splash Roo? We received it from a breeder but not sure where he obtained him from I Help please!!
