A couple of days ago I rehomed my 5-month old Blue Wheaten cockerel to my next door neighbor. She needed a rooster to help guard her hens. She has been letting him out to free range with everyone and today I saw him outside for the first time. He caught sight of me across the field and made his way home, all alone through the tall grass. It was the saddest thing. Once he got to the fence, he was frantic to get into my yard. All but one of the other 7 Americaunas that were raised together came over to greet him. The big blue cockerel I'm keeping marched over, dropping a wing and stomping the ground. I was amazed that he could make that poor bird run and fly along the fence line shrieking. Poor cockerel stepped on some cactus. It was all very sad.
I called my neighbor but she was not home. My big dog and I stayed outside with him to be sure he would be safe since he was all alone far from her house. There's a big fox or two that have been after my neighbors' chickens..... After about half an hour, he turned his back on me and sadly walked back to his new home. It was so sad to watch.
