Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Okay, here are the photos of the strange "fluffed out" feathers on one of my blue girls. She's got such nice coloring, good weight, conformation... comb is not too good. But then there is the strange feather problem. Talk about feathers that are NOT tight...

I talked to a friend who thought it might be a nutritional deficiency of some sort. Vitamin A maybe?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Is she molting?

No, I don't think so. She's been like this a few months now and hasn't lost a single feather. Her feathers began to look like this after I took the rooster out of their coop, so not rooster damage either. No medications either, except Corid when they were babies. No curling of the feathers either, they just stand on end all the time.

She looks broody to me..or a pullet who is coming into POL..some AM's are a bit hormonal and wacky at those times.

Can anyone tell the quality of my blue cockerel? Very new, hoping to hatch BBS chicks from him in the Spring. Thanks!

I am not an expert, but from what I can see he looks too young to tell.

I like his coloring, though some may think it's a little light, as well as shanks are a little light. Comb looks good (incorrect peas always bother me). Feathers look tight and in good condition (I can never get young boys to look this pretty, so bravo!)

You'll have to wait until he's older to see his mature coloring, shanks, hackle and saddles, etc., which means it's hard to be critical of him right now. If he fills out around 6-8 months, hopefully he will continue to do so and get to be a nice size.

So looking good, and I hope others will comment!
