Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I know a breeder named Debbie hogan great stock and she is in California you can find her contact stuff on the ameraucauna club breeder directory
Ha ha, it will be good to have some variety in the sounds coming from various chickens. I was inspecting the Blue Copper roo yesterday...I had him up on a nesting box and was feeling his conformation up under his wings and such (I swear he liked it) and the Ameraucana girls got up there with him, peeping and cheeping, and insisted I "inspect" them too. They really make me smile. Here's another pic of one of the girls. I'm really going to want more of these, for breeding purposes. Since there is so much chicanery concerning EEs being sold as Ameraucanas, is there anyone here who breeds WAs that would be willing to sell me some hatching eggs at some point? Where should I look? I'd prefer local (CA) if possible but that's not neccessary.

I want a splash...EE, or, if it is a color in Ameraucanas..I want that.

No, the better bred BBS ams are silver based.  Beetle green sheen is seen on birds with silver genes and purple sheen seen on those with gold.

I've read, from a university study, that silve and gold have nothing to do with the sheen on the feathers. It is the feather structure and the way it catches and reflects light that determines the sheen.

If I'm making white/black splits to increase the size in my white bantams, do I have to use dominant white? or would recessive white work as well?

I will have LF wheaten/blue wheaten Ameraucana eggs available in the spring, possibly sooner. Only two of my girls are laying right now. All the others are molting. The two pullets in my Avatar are an example of what you would be getting.

Hey everyone, hoping to get your opinions. I bought 12 ameraucana 10 week Olds 5 weeks ago. Since then 3 have turned out to be roosters. I should mention I paid for 12 & she gave me 13. Not all of them are true ameraucana colours. Anyways she said she would take the roosters back and refund my $$. The only roo I might be interested in keeping is a splash (Brave). I have 4 blue pullets and might think of breeding them in the spring. What would I get with that combo. Should I just return all the roos and get a different one for new blood?? Also I could wait till spring and have a credit with her....
Thoughts please!

Perfect! That's what I want, especially blue wheatens...so purty. Do you keep a list of those interested? You could send me a PM when you have some come available.
