Good morning! I am new to BYC. Great site. Please take a look at my pics. I really am interested in raising Ameraucana's for the kids to show. My roo and chicks were not purchased from hatcheries. We have done well with our 4-H cinnamon's, but are ready to explore new blue-egg territory! Do you think I have any true Ameraucana's? I am into this early enough to turn these out with the laying flock. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have two EEs that I bought as Ameraucanas a year and a half ago. One lays a beautiful blue egg, and the other a large mint green egg. They are super layers and nice hens. This past spring I bought Ameraucanas from a reputable breeder. My favorite(pic in avatar) laid a blue green egg yesterday which was the first to lay. I love my AMs and I think they are beautiful. You can go that route if that is what you want or you can buy the pure eggs and hatch them, but....make sure of the breeder first. There a reputable ones on here. You can always ask for a recommendation here or go to ABC forum http://ameraucana.org/forum/index.php?board=2.0 and look at the for sale ads.

You have some beautiful EE's there. I love mine. I love having the Ameraucnas too. Not really into the showing, or genetics, but love the pure blue colors you can get, and the other colors. Here is a pure AM. I had a while back..I need another blue!

Another girl from the past.

Thank you all so much. Cynthia12, you have some super beautiful babies! I have checked the ABC site and there is a breeder in my area. I will incorporate my EEs into my laying flock. I like them so much, especially the roo! I guess I need to read up on hatching.

Annababy if you like the EEs, you will love the ams...my favorite breed - sweet, docile characters. Watch your EE roo around the kids as they can become fiesty depending on what breed is mixed in to make them. Good luck!

Today has been a tough day in that we got about 12 inches of snow here in the mountains. It was a wet one, causing trees to droop and we lost power about 9AM this morning. We got the generator going early afternoon so our necessities are taken care of....computer, television, a few lamps and the refrigerator. The great thing that happened today is that I got the first egg from my 29 week old Ameraucanas! It was from my favorite splash. I saw one of the blue hens checking out a nest, but I was so excited, I did not wait around to see if she was laying as well. Here is the pic:

I don't think it is quite this blue and maybe has a little more green, but my lighting is so bad today, who knows? Let's home the camera is correct. The one on the right is from my little dominique that has been laying since July.

Woot woot - congrats! My oldest ams were hatched late May and I'm still hoping to find a blue egg before the new year :)
