Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

That bearded hen is a descendent from my childhood flock, Technically this rooster is a miscolored wheaten, mahogony gene instead of gold, too much black etc. He was one of my great grandpas culls (my great grandpa is a former APA judge and has a really nice wheaten rooster he hatched last spring that he is using to breed) Hes going to split the chicks from this next hatch with me. So i will hopefully get some good hens and a roo to pair them with. Im thinking of using my "bb red" roo so as not to mate sibling to sibling and possibly start a project for BB red ameraucanas.
FYI there is not a brown breasted red variety in Ameraucana . Nice rooster anyway . I suspect he is a Easter Egger . Especially it that bearded hen is from the same source .

Well good luck with your project .

Help me with this...why is his not a brown/red Amerucana? Besides his terminology, what am I missing? Also, the wheaten Amerucana roos are very similar but I can see a difference on the breeders pictures on the club page. Maybe I'm missing something in his picture? Thanks!

Good question . I will try to explain . The cockers have a brown breasted brown red . These are crow wing . That is to say black like a crows wing . His terminology had me confused at first . This bird is duck winged like all wheaten . A colored patch like a mallard duck is duck wing . His post on the project thread said wheaten based or dark wheaten . Hoping to make BB red as I recall .

Is his breast black or brown? A brown/red should have a black breast. He looks like a brown/red to me, but it depends on whether he has a black breast. He also should have a crow wing, not a duckwing (brown flight feathers). The true test would be to breed him against a brown/red female and see what you get.
