Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

The little peep on the left is an Ameraucana, or so the feed store says. Any ideas of what colors she might when grown?

If you bought it from the feed store it is very likely an EE and it could be any color when grown. That's the thing about EE's. They don't breed true.

I would say it is an EE. It does not look anything like what an Ameraucana chick would look like. The only one that comes close is the Silver variety, but looking at what silver chicks are supposed to look like, the one in your picture doesn't look like them at all. So, the feed store is selling EE's.

Actually, I suspected as much when I got the chicks. But it is kind of cheezie that they are calling them Ameraucana. But my peeps are intended as pets first and foremost. Truly just backyard chickens. Her name is Henny Penny. Husband and I are looking forward to seeing the different colored eggs. I am glad you confirmed this for me though, thank you. I'm not an experienced chicken farmer. She is a cute little Easter Egger. In fact my husband said I should have gotten 2.

Thanks! That's what I thought, but it kind of stumped me. I am glad I chose Lavs, I have some EE's in with them and the EE offspring is black! It makes it so easy to know which are full blood!

I adore my EE's! They are more consistant layers than my Ameraucanas too.

Hello everyone. My 5 year old daughter informed me that she wanted more "puffy cheeked" chickens. (We have a white EE, dubbed queen elsa of course) and that she wants to take them to shows. I am not going to argue about more chickens! I haven't had much luck finding a good source for hatching eggs. I checked on the ABC listing on the breed webpage. Many of those I contacted were not very helpful or were no longer offering eggs. Anyone have any ideas? I would preferably like to find white or Wheatons. Blue Wheatons would also be workable.
