That is one of the issues with these hatcheries.  Half of the time they don't even seem to know.  It took me a while to realize that the difference between a hatchery stock of a certain breed and a breeder quaility of the same breed is night and day!  The RIR are a  perfect example of how hatcheries can screw up a breed!  EE's are great birds though!

 Thus far the coloring looks to be a pullet, and the coloring is hard to tell at this point on the wheaten part.  BachBach is right, you'll have to wait a few more weeks to be certain!  The Lav's are doing amazing.  I have one for sure little roo, his comb is twice the size of the others and he is already protective of the others.  They are so stinkin cute.  I am handling him a lot hoping to avoid any aggression issues when he's older, he will replace the Lav roo I have now.  How are your Lav's and little EE?

Hi! they're doing great! I rearranged my chicks in my brooders and moved several of the biggest ones out to the hen house in a dog crate. Now the littler ones and the silkies I had hatch several days ago have their own brooder and they seem to be doing great! The little EE is so adorable! And he's almost always cuddled up to one of my lavs from you!!

Today I had to take out my hen. The chicks are running around eating, drinking, and playing yet this first time mom was grabbing them as they ran by pulling them towards her constantly this morning. You could tell it was more than she could handle. She was being a bit too aggressive with trying to get them under her. She seems to be fine with being out of the brooder but is still doing that momma cluck but not puffing up at others in the flock. So all is well.

And then the other problem with these hatcheries what happens to the males when they sell sexed chicks. They don't do the breeds justice and then I can't imagine the unwanted male chicks are treated what most of us chicken keepers would consider humanely.

I accidently saw a video (you know how the video will sometimes start as you scroll down) someone had posted the other other day showing the 'ginder'. i knew it but didn't need to see it.......

Good to hear. Hopefully 'he' is a she, you've got to get some good luck to counteract the bad! Some of the EE's from that same pen are starting to get some color as they feather out. I have several with gold 'collars'. The one you have should be interesting since he was the lightest color of all of the EE's I've hatched from that Lavender roo. All of them save for the one you have were solid black at hatch. So glad I chose Lavender Ameraucanas!

Got some lavender and black babies today I have a blue rooster and I know lavender under blue is supposed to be a no no but for backyard quality easter eggers would it be fine?

You said to let you know about the sex of my two Wheatens. It turned out to be one of each. You thought it was going to be two pullets based on the tail. Now, I think your theory pans out here, though, because in person I could tell that one of the tails was significantly fuller than the other but that didn't seem to show up on the pictures.

Also, of anybody in the Kentucky area wants this sweetheart, we can't add another rooster to our flock. He's a gorgeous Blue Wheaten hatched from breeder eggs. He is free to a good home, and we travel the stretch from Indiana/KY/TN/NC a lot because of spread out family.

Hopefully so! I could use some good luck for once! He's such a pretty color I think. I'll try to get a pic of him and his lav buddy for you. He reminds me of a dark blue kind of. Can't wait to see how he feathers out. My oldest lav was out free ranging for a while today. She's doing well and has several mixed breed buddies. She's Such a pretty girl!!!

I only have 5 americaunas. (supposed to be 7 but two turned out not to be) These five include;a wheaten, a silver, a red and brown, a lavender, and a red and grey chick that i havnt yet to figure out.

What part of KY? I live in E. TN, Smoky Mtn area. I have some Blue Wheaten eggs in the incubator, but I have not checked them to see if they arrived unscrambled. I might be interested.

I grew up just over the border in WNC, so I go through your area all the time - in fact this weekend, ha! We are in Paintsville, in the foothills, now for my husband's job. I would love to find a home for this guy. He's beautiful and very sweet natured. We would keep him but our 3 other roosters wouldn't allow it!
