not sure I understand the purpose of this ...why is it necessary for the ABC to own the intellectual rights to my photograph ??? As long as I have given you permission to use it, I would think that would satisfy any legal issues...

The entire site, and all the images, text, documents, are protected under copyright law as filed with the Library of Congress earlier this year. So, any images that are posted to the site are automatically covered. The issue is not whether we have permission to use it or not, but whether someone has permission/authority to copy it from the site and use it elsewhere.

Not after the images are watermarked.

So even though I gave my permission to other sites to use my images, once the ABC uses them and watermarks them on their site, any other use - even if it pre-dated the ABC's watermarking and inclusion on the ABC website - is basically illegal? Apologies if I have this all wrong but I clearly am not comprehending the implications of sharing images with the ABC.

Why is this such a big deal? You send in a picture, ABC watermarks it, and that ONE watermarked image is under their copyright. However, your copy of the image that is in watermarked is still yours to do with as you please

From what I'm reading and understanding, you can do with what you wish with your photos. The particular photo on the ABC site that is watermarked is thusly done for your protection also but your copy remains your property. I believe this is done to prevent others from using your stock to promote poultry others are trying to sell (was a case on ebay where someone used a photo of a AM roo not theirs to sell bogus eggs).

Lol, I wasn't targeting that post at you. Many people seem to be getting upset about how the copyright was done, and I was doing my best at a clarification.

If you own the animal why not just take another photograph of it thereby avoiding any complications. That is what I would do I love my chickens so much I take photos like crazy to get them from every angle at every age and stage of life. Then if one photo is sent I have more than one image of it to use as I please if the other image is used by the ABC. Life doesnt have to be so hard...

Well, Justin, thanks for reminding me, once again, that you just can't please everyone.

who is Justin? certainly not me............you have me confused with someone else. the 'Chaz" part of my name there should be a clue, just like if you click my user name and view my profile it clearly says my name is Charles.......and of course, you don't have my permission to use my name in anything, I need to learn how to do that watermark thing you speak of......

Either way, yeah you can please everyone, and from what I understand, y'all not pleasing to a lot of people lately....
