Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

So I have another question.does anyone think I should tell this girl that she is falsely advertising her eggs? I paid good money for shipping and I think if those are not truly Ameraucana eggs she wouldn't be selling them as so. I have questions about the OE eggs also. I have an O E that lays really dark eggs and the eggs I got from her are very pale. I'm beginning to have my doubts.I thought it would be nice to have some true Americana's and would hate to see anyone that is obsessive about A's end up with EE's. I guess I should have asked about references. What does anyone think?

Is it the actual chicken chick? Regardless, I think anyone who is selling eggs should advertise correctly. However I don't see any true AM enthusiast having her as their go-to source anyway. And people who like to call EEs, AMs don't care to be correct anyway. And that's ok IMO.

Totally unrelated, I was once selling EE chicks (for $4 each) and had someone message me asking if I could take less.. "that's kind of high for Araconda chicks."

I wondered if I should check the poor things for fangs and scales..

Also, regarding the OE, a first generation OE can hatch from a very pale blue or green egg.. It's the dark egg gene from the cock (or hen if the male is a blue egg gene) that results in the more rich olive color.

I hatched some chicks from light blue eggs that were crossed to just a wyandotte- so not even a dark egg gene- and ended up with this color egg. :)

I think you misread the chicken chick's page...she states that Ameraucana's have slate or black legs...she also says that EEs can have green legs...those statements are correct...an Ameraucana will not have green legs..that is a sign of yellow skin and Ameraucanas have white skin...As for your question about telling the girl that she is falsely advertising her birds...I would not unless you are ready for an argument....you might point out that they do not have all the characteristics of the Ameraucana according to the SOP...beyond that you will be wasting your time...if she is breeding and selling eggs and chicks, she won't listen anyway, or she would know already..just chalk it up as experience gained and lesson learned, enjoy your EEs and find a real breeder now that you have a better understanding of what a true Ameraucana is..always ask the breeder what variety they breed..if they don't know, move on...

So, the jury is still out on the 2 blues from the Easter HAL. In the group shot I think the bigger one on the left is probably a cockerel. The smaller one on the right I'm still hoping is a pullet. Thoughts please?

Car, yes,it was the Chicken chick and she isn't my go to source. That is what came up when I Googled a question about the green legs. I am an enthusiast of all breeds. I have purebreds and I also have mutts, I have my favs and it isn't necessarily by breed. I go alot by their personality and how good of layers they are.I'll go back on my iPad and check it out just to see. I'm sure I can probably find it. I think I Ameraucanas are pretty and thought I'd try to hatch some. Definitely not an enthusiast of them anymore than any other breed.

Well it didn't take long to find it. I Googled, Can true Ameraucana chickens have green legs and the very first article was from The Chicken Chick. Maybe I misinterpreted what she said, my main thing is that I was just asking a question I don't want to go accusing somebody of selling something fraudulently when I don't know the facts myself 100%. Just trying to get some input. I guess I just need to talk to some real experts. Did prove my point however that I was talking about the right person so thank y'all very much.

I need some help here. This bird I can't tell girl or boy. The boys have much bigger combs with 3 rows and the girls festhers look more feminine than this one. She is 4 months old. I did do crop surgery to save her (hopefully her) life.really need this to be a girl :)
