Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Finally got a few photos. They are a bit blurry as I just brought out my 6 week olds to join the 10 weeks and nobody wanted to sit still! Also their spoiled view from the coop! Hopefully I will get some nice natural light photos tomorrow.

RavynFallen; I have a question for you. My two EE PULLETS(yes they were supposed to be AMS) that I bought from Orscheln's are 3 months old now. They have been inside at night and out in a cage in the run with the flock during the day..I have had them on mediacted chick food to try to build up their immunity. I don't have a grow out pen so we have been wanting to get them out of the house but I am afraid that they will succumb to coccydiosis, or the temp changes. I have been waiting til it hits 40 to take them out each day. I just mixed in all flock feed for my layers for the Winter. Do u think they would do fine if I go ahead and let them live with the flock? As far as my other birds r concerned they have been in their little cage inside the run for so long they don't even look twice at them anymore. And should I just start feeding the medicated food to the whole flock mixed in so these guys can get more immunity built up? Any advice is very much apprechiated! We live in KS. Its flat..lol! And our property has no trees except for the woods that ecircle our 2 Acres so they can't free range or it would be feeding a chicken a day or more... to all the hawks.. any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

I saw you got some great advice, but I'll still toss my 2 cents in, lol... :)

Once they are fully feathered, they can be outside 24/7... I usually put them outside during the daytime for a bit first to get them used to it, but unless the temps at night are severely low, they should be fine... and zince you said they're bigger than most of your flock then they should be able to hold their own... there will be some bickering and shuffling in the pecking order, but thats normal as long as it doesn't escalate into blood drawing injuries...

Cocci is not an infection, it is a protazoan... medicated feed just has Amprolium in it, but it doesn't guarantee enough to be effective... better to just run a course of Corid IF Cocci overload becomes a problem... them being outside this long and no issues, I wouldn't worry about it now...

I feed Purina Flock Raiser from hatch to lay... I have mixed ages in my flocks and ducks, so it works best for me...

Hope this helps... :)

I will actually separate the 2 splash and create new splash by breeding him to some of my blue pullets. Ravyn told me that Paul doesn't like to continuously mate splash to splash because it could lighten the color, and that makes sense to me

Paul sent me a E-mail saying He breeds in all combinations except for blue/splash! It washes out the color and many from that pairing will be too light!

So I probably did help to build their immunity by taking them out part time at first. now tonight one has red loose loose stools and the other one sneezed. sometimes I feel like I cant win for losing! lol! I am giving them apple cider vinegar in their water. I have an EE whos had loose stools this week so I have added the vinegar to everybody's water. I keep everything real clean...they do have to stay in an enclosed run...12 hens in probably a 50 foot run I'd guess. but not sure now if I should let them out tomorrow or wait for it to pass. the 12 original have all been exposed and these 2 also at this point. hate to give Baytril too soon. did worm everyone outside 6 days ago with wazine, ordered valbazen to follow up on them in 10 days...I probably just worry too much. but the EE outside her voice sounds a little different and the one inside sounds just like her. like a cold almost. should I still release them in the AM? you have been so wonderful kind and helpful. please advise yet again..

Valbazen is great wormer, so is Safeguard... Wazine I never use, it only treats roundworms...

Don't get hasty with Baytril... it is a super effective antibiotic, but overuse can lead to lowered immunity and effectiveness... occasional sneezes can happen, watch more for regularity or discharge, swelling around eyes, bubbles or awful smell from the beak/head area...

Sometimes after they drink lots of water their stool can be loose too... watch for hunched posture with fluffed out feathers...

Pink in stool once in a while is normal, they shed intestinal lining... bright red like fresh blood, or tarry black indicates blood in stool...

If they are eating, drinking and acting fine, just let them out... kids gotta grow up someday, lol...
