Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Thanks a lot guys! I wasn't planning on ordering any chicks this year... but everyone had to brag about their new babies.

I believe you have to have a few posts under your belt before you can post pics, though I couldn't find the reference to how many anywhere just now. You probably both received an email with links to check out on how to navigate through BYC, rules, and all sorts of useful stuff, so I suggest you check it out when you have a moment. I want to say it's 5-10 posts? So, tell us about your birds and then try posting some pics of the cuties.

I just started a hatch of 16 eggs. This is a test hatch with my old 1602N Hova Bator, but working with lower humidity. Thought I would try, one more time, to see if I could make it work. I have 7 pure BBS, and 9 mixed or EEs. I have a recipient for all the babies. I have now sorted my hens and the roos for my ultimate breeding and they should be ready after this hatch comes off. I also bought two new hygrometer/thermometer(s) which are in sync, so I should have better readings.

Yes, I know there is a hatching thread and I have read all posts on two different ones. I just hope I have baby pictures to post March 3/4.

ps.....my husband has not spotted it yet!

My first test hatch from the splash pen was 75%, but I locked down from the black pen yesterday and it was horrible.
28 eggs set
20 clear
1 blood ring
Only 7 made lockdown

I have another set 4 days behind this one, and it's 50% fertile, so the black rooster is gaining confidence with the ladies. I will be setting again next week, so he's had 3 weeks to improve his game. I think results will be better in the March hatch. He was low man on the totem pole before I split my straight run order to breeder flocks, so it's taken him a while to take a lead role. My splash rooster's eggs are already at 80%, so I think they are going to give me a good spring.

Good Luck Dstokely! And remember breeder nutrition! Extra protein, vitamins and minerals make a difference too!

My black roo's results will be in the next hatch. I needed to give the hens a little time to clear from the old roo to the new. This hatch is more to test the incubator. Next hatch will be very important to me.
