Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I'm in the same boat. I had pre-orders that took the whole last batch so I'm waiting on the next ones. The good thing is Oz got my favorites, so I will get to watch them grow

I did a 7 day candle of a set on Sunday, and fertility was still 25%, so I scrapped the whole batch and set again. Those eggs were collected during that really cold weather, so maybe that had something to do with it. Now I have two batches running 2 days apart. If I have bad fertility, I can combine the good eggs in one incubator for a staggered hatch and set incubator 2 with some eggs I'm collecting this week

I candled this next hatch last week and the fertility looked great on the wheatens, not so great on the blacks. Really need for those black AM boys and girls to step up! LOL

Are you coming to Edgefield this weekend? As of last night, I was the only one entered Ameraucanas. :(

We aren't going to be able to make it this weekend, but maybe Oz could enter a 2 week old cockerel

My black fertility was still way off, but my cuckoo marans was, too, and he's usually 95% or better. I'm hoping it was the weather. I have a set I will candle Friday that is 15 from the splash pen and 10 from the black, so hopefully I will get some better numbers. The Sunday set was a dozen ach from the AMs and cuckoo marans, so

Well more info would be helpful. Like where you are located, if you are looking for chicks, eggs or full grown birds. Shipping is expensive so I'm guessing you will want to pick them up yourself to save on $?

If fertility does not improve much you could try trimming the vent feathers on the rooster . Extra fluff is not common in Amerauacana but I have encountered it once . Hens next if needed .

I read about that ... I think on the forum, but not sure what I'm looking for or how much to trim. I think I'll check those roosters later and see if there seems to be extra fluff around the vent.

Thanks, Jerry!
