Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

No muffs and a single comb. Not Ameraucana.
Hey, since you're around, can you give me an opinion of this blue I sold to Oz a little over 3 weeks ago? It's a product of my splash rooster over black hens, and is the first grow out picture I have of my mating selections. Be honest :thumbsup

At this point, all I can see is an exceptionally dark Blue chick. Fingers crossed for good lacing as it matures.

I was purposely mating for a darker blue, but is there such a thing as too dark? My blue hens, for the most part, are very light with little lacing, so that's what I'm trying to improve

I just love the dark blue too! I have 2 blue Cochins and their both a beautiful dark blue! I have thought all along that I will be doing my best to keep my blues a nice dark blue. My personal preference! Lol,

I love it too, but JB is right about the lacing. I want the dark blue, but I also want the lacing which is still a problem area in the blue AMs. it's not a true lacing, like an SLW, but more of an edging. Oz did say that it's starting to show some good edging, so :fl
I kept 6 blues from the last batch, some very dark and some a little lighter, so I will be able to compare these as the grow. I set 14 from the black rooster over blue hens on Monday, so hopefully his fertility will be up and I will have some of those to compare as well. So far the few chicks I have gotten from him have been smaller, and the blues are a little lighter than the other pen

Did I read somewhere your buying Red Cell * for Johnny? I used to feed it to my horses it's a super power vitamin for sure! Is iron an issue with adult chickens as well? Johnny will be able to replenish the earth! That's good stuff!
I can't believe my babies!! They're so precious!! The little blue wheatens are so friendly they crawl all over my arms. Now the others are slowly following! They are just my pride & joy!!

Well, I'm starting with nutri drench, and it's more for the hens than the roosters. In 3 hatches I've had 5 cases of wry neck (stargazing), so I'm hoping the supplement will lead to more vigorous chicks

The hen's will feel better too. You sure hatch a lot of chicks! How many do you think you'll sell this spring and summer?

Well, I'm averaging 15 every 2 weeks, and just now catching up with the waiting list, so I'll put the ad back up and keep hatching as long as they sell. If it keeps up like this, I will probably look into getting a bigger incubator this winter. Right now I have 2 Octagon 20s

You're going to need a bigger incubator....
