Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Here is a picture of what I'm guessing is a splash at around that age.
That looks Wheaten to me???
It's very possible there is Ameraucana in Abe's background, but because his coloring doesn't conform to the (very strict) standard of perfection for Ameraucanas, he is considered an Easter Egger. Ameraucanas, I believe, are the only breed out there that have the beard and muffs. But Ameraucanas also have slate or black legs and white skin. Faverolles have beard and muffs too... :)

Kinda looks that way to me too, but with the lineage in my birds, I don't see that being possible.

Good to know on the Faverolles!

Abe, our rescue rooster. I know the girls are Rhode Island Reds but Abe has something else mixed in, Ameraucana? maybe? Abe is his name, well, because of his beard of course. His former people called him Red and he was beat up daily. He is so sweet, not like our last one who had me trapped on the porch all the time....well, not any more. I love Abe...

So, any guesses if he has Ameraucana mixed in?

The first morning at our place, he started back to his former home, I ran down the driveway and lured him back to our place with food. He ate non-stop for about 15 minutes, I was really beginning to worry that he would eat too much. I don't think he got to eat before, the other birds just wouldn't let him and he couldn't sleep in the coop but was sleeping in a dog shelter. So, the first night, he went into the coop an hour before the girls went, I think to make sure he had a place and it was HIS. He now feels confident enough to stay out late with the girls.

He has some issues walking and with balance but he had put on a bunch of weight in the last 2-3 weeks and looks so much better. Ideas please...Kate
Yellow legs means that an Ameraucana was not one of his parents. It's possible that there is some Ameraucana blood in him, several generations back, but it is more likely that he is an Easter Egger, with no 'true' Ameraucana in him at all.

How old do you think Rowena is? The lady I got them from said 2-3 weeks, but she definitely looks at least 3 weeks old to me. And it's bugging me that I can't tell if Midge is a splash or a blue. I'd really like to know what all of you think she is. I'm honestly not sure about her. To me, there's a 50/50 chance that she's either. I'll take some more pics and put them up in just a second....

To me, Rowena looks older than 2-3 wks. I would guess 5-6 wks at least. Is that your only wheaten? If it is roo, you cannot breed it with your blues as they are a different variety and they will be EEs. If I am telling you what you already know, I apologize. People on this board have done a wonderful job teaching me about Ameraucanas since I bought my first Americanas from a hatchery three springs ago. I found out they were EEs. I got my first AMs two springs ago and love them.

Yeah, I was hoping she might be a splash because she's so light, but you're probably right, she's probably just a super light blue....bummer. I really wanted a splash. But I still love her :)
As for Rowena, she does have A LOT of feathers for only being 3 weeks, doesn't she? 4 or 5 wouldn't surprise me one bit. Especially because she's SOOOO much bigger than the others. She's HUGE!!
