I have a 5 day old Brown Red Ameraucana and I love her big reddish brownish stripe down her back! So pretty!

Brown Reds should be black as chicks. Sounds like you have an Easter Egger.

Wha??? At the place I got them it said they were Ameraucanas. Well EE's are better. More colorful eggs!!!

The only way to get true Ameraucana is to source from a breeder or order directly from either Meyer hatchery, Cackle hatchery, or MyPetChicken.com
Most hatcheries and feed stores sell Easter Eggers as Ameraucana. Happens to everyone at first.

So, 4 weeks ago my broody hatched a little blue ameraucauna chick. How old should it be before I post pics to find out if little Charlie is Charles or Charlotte?

I could tell with mine by comb size and color around 6-8 weeks, but i have wheaten, black and lavender, no blue. More experienced people may be able to tell sooner.

Blue Ameraucana cockerels tend to have patchier coloring once they are feathered in.

No it's not. Easter Eggers are not an actual breed of chicken. They possess the blue egg gene, but they do not meet or conform to any breed standard. They can lay eggs of any color. You should be able to find lots of pictures of eggs on here from EE's if you searched the threads.

First one is your only pullet, lol... how many boys did you want?

Sounds normal for me. I raised thirteen HRIR this spring, and nine of them are cockerels :/
At least with these, I wanted a pair of cockerels.
