Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hello my name is Carly and i respect the fact that you only want ameraucana talk on this thread! That said i believe I am one of those people that was sold an EE instead of a purebred Ameraucana. I'm disappointed to say the least! I was hoping a professional Ameraucana breeder and/or enthusiasts would be able to tell me if they really are purebred or not. I have come to realize that my issue is not the only one, and is very common. I bought my two birds from what I believed was a reputable breeder and then after waiting 3.5 weeks i receive 2under age chicks that were sick!!.....they are doing well now and are about to start laying! I'm interested to see the color of the eggs....maybe that will help distinguish what they are. They are about 14 weeks in the photos any help would be awesome!! Thank you for your time and your help!

Those are Easter Eggers, not Ameraucana. Most Easter Eggers aren't actually mixed breeds. They just haven't been bred to meet any set breed standard.

Yes, those are Easter Eggers... green legs(should be slate), one looks to have almost a single comb (should be pea comb) and their coloring is not a standard color acceptable for a true Ameraucana... egg color can vary even in true Ameraucana, the best way to tell if they are true or Easter Eggers is by the color variety... all true Am's will be advertised by a specific color... you can look up the examples of proper colors on the Ameraucana Breeders Club website... :)

The 'breeder' likely either doesn't know the difference between Easter Eggers and Ameraucana, or doesn't care to know. Just because somebody has a flock of birds and sells chicks, doesn't make them a breeder.
