Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Anyone out there selling Ameraucana chicks in Utah? Just getting into backyard chickens.

There is no one specifically in Utah, but some states around you. You can check the Ameraucana Breeders Club Directory here:

http://ameraucanabreedersclub.org/docs/breedersdirectory_state.pdf

Also, you may consider joining the Ameraucana Breeders Club, the official breeders club for ameraucanas since 1978. You can visit their website and forum. You can read and learn so much from other posts and the bonus if you join is asking questions and getting answers from some of the country's finest breeders. Membership starts at just $12 per year and a wealth of information comes with it!

We have yearly District Meets with an award for best ameraucana of $50. We have a yearly National Meet also that with many awards, prizes and auctions for a chance to get some great birds. There is also a yearly drawing for new members at the end of each year for a fabulous prize. This year's award will be this Premier 1 Brooder Heater, 12"x12", for up to 20 chicks, with the cover.

Members do not need to be present to win. Drawing will held at our 2017 National Meet, at the Minnesota State Poultry Show, 10/28-29/2017, Hutchinson, MN.

To enter, just join the ABC! You can join online at ameraucanabreedersclub.org/membership.html

Also, if you are planning to become a breeder I would suggest joining the American Poultry Association and getting a Standard of Perfection. It is guidebook for exhibitors and breeders to follow. It has a wealth of information in it including pictures of artist's interpretation of what many of the birds should look like. It includes information on faults and disqualifications in all birds.

The ABC gives out a Handbook with each New Member package, as well as offering them for sale ($5) on our website. Our current Handbook was done in 2014, by my predecessor, and the information and articles are quite dated.

The Board has decided to move forward with publishing a new 2017 Ameraucana Breeders Club Handbook and we invite you to advertise your farm and chickens! In the last two years, we have given out over 200 Handbooks and anticipate that trend will only go up.

Advertising for this Handbook is actually lower than it was in 2014, as we've researched printing costs and found some very competitive pricing. The finished book will be 5" x 7" and the ad costs are as follows:

  • 1/4 page - 2.25"w x 3.25"h, b&w - $30, color - $40
  • 1/2 page - 4.5"w x 3.25"h, b&w - $45, color - $60
  • Full page - 4.5"w x 6.5"h, b&w - $90, color - $120
  • Full page color only – inside back or front cover - $150

Ads must be in by March 1st.

You can also get one of these in your New Member packet, just by joining the Ameraucana Breeders Club. Join online at http://www.ameraucanabreedersclub.org/membership.html

Chicken Tycoon - the above two posts are right on the money. I also highly recommend you join. I just recently got interested in breeding Ameraucanas and joined and I'm really glad I did. The members I've met so far have been great sources of information and I was able to place an order with a breeder nearby that is incubating eggs for me as I write this. It seems to be a really great club. I also recommend you join the APA for the same reasons. I also have breeding programs for other breeds and the APA Yearbook was a great source for locating breeders. You also might want to check out the monthly newspaper Poultry Press. Lots of great info on upcoming shows and breeder advertisements. But yeah, at the very least I'd join the ABC - you'll be glad you did.
