I am sooo excited, I have 2 eggs I set from one of my girls in my incubator, and this morning I had pips in each! Happy B Day to me

Now I just hope they are by my new rooster, and not my old rooster

Can't wait to get home, even though that won't be till late tonite!

I love this thread, I'm glad it has reappeared. I just got my membership packet in the mail last week or so, so now I feel like one of the "cool" kids, lol.

I don't show any poultry and got started on BBS Ameraucanas for their blue eggs. That said, I still want to breed toward SOP....soooo here are this year's new group...

Which of these two Black Ameraucanas roos would you choose for breeding? Both I raised as chicks from an Ameraucana Club breeder here in NC (not aBYC member). They both have their faults, but pick the better of the two and say why, please...

This is Hermes - greek god of riches, trade and good fortune, also messenger of the gods
His eyes are wrong with an orange ring. His legs/feet are correct, slate with white bottom.

And Dionysus - god of wine and ecstasy. His eyes are solid black and his legs/feet are slate with white bottom. But he seems long in the back to me.

These are the 4 pullets I have to work with...

2 blacks from the same NC breeder, good eye color and slate legs

1 black and 1 blue from a hatch of eggs I got from Seabrightmom. I'll breed the blue girl regardless because she's the only blue I have until hatching/acquiring more this coming season:

I would definately not breed with the second rooster. His back isn't too long, it's his tail angle. It's really off.

The first one's eyes aren't that bad either.

Check the length of the tail on that last black hen you have there with the blue. It looks a little long, but it could just be the picture.

I have a little girl identical to that last black pullet - looks about the same age too, and from the same breeder. No complaints I love her to death but her tail is at that same funny down angle. I was hoping she might grow out of it . . .

Pretty birds! I like the first one much better! I am upset I am pretty sure my Black Ameraucana boy isn't doing his job! The eggs all came up infertile while the faverolle eggs I sent along are plugging away. They were treated the same way since the day they were laid. I really think he isn't fertile the ladies are all laying well but now fertile gah! He does have mites and I am treating him hopefully thats the answer.

here are the ladies I want to breed with to get lav EE where would I get a lav rooster?
2nd question would lav EE's chicks sale, I can only have 15 chickens total so would have to sale the ones I am not keeping I am not sure how to go about this, new to the chickens I also have one blue Ameraucana.

Thanks for the feedback on the roos. Hmmm, looks like Dionysus will remain in the 'spare roo pen' with no girl friends for the Winter.
