Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Poor boy but to me his tail almost looks like a sumatra or something. I have seen alot of sumatra like traits in the Black popping up on occasion does the sumatra play any part in their background. Another breeder and I talked about how the gypsy face seems like a sumatra comb. The long tail carriage seems like a sumatra trait to me to.

Hmm, I don't know. I'll have to ask the breeder. I do know he mentioned having stock from 3 different lines of other club breeders.

Ok cool I think it might just involve the Black Ameraucana variety as a whole who knows maybe one breeders birds are diffrent and have bad tail carriage. I have birds from Paul Smith and Will Marrow (his stock is a mix of Smith and Cree but I think they are begining to become his own line) I was just out locking up and I ended up sitting in my winter jacket in my small coop just staring at my ameraucana flock and

LOL Henry, I do things like that too.

I saw your new pair's photos. They looked good, especially for such a long delayed trip. Post another pic of them now that the pullet is looking better.

Thanks, he's a very nice fella too. Constantly underfoot and will let you pick him right up, carry him around, always talks to me during chores. Very good with the ladies too.

I may let Dionysus have some EE girlfriends in the Spring. He would improve blue egg genes in their offspring. There are always people wanting to buy EEs all season long. Seems I never have enough.

Here's another pic of Hermes. He has the one BSL pullet shown in his flock. She was a leftover from last year's hatches/sales. I left her with the Ameraucanas 'cause she grew up with them and I didn't want her singled out in the larger laying flock.

I tried that lady- Barbara- but got no response. I did manage to get a couple more BW chicks - but they came from Halo's eggs too. I'll have to go back to the list I guess. I'd rather make a short trip to see where they are coming from- if anybody understands that.

...here are the ladies I want to breed with to get lav EE where would I get a lav rooster?
2nd question would lav EE's chicks sale, I can only have 15 chickens total so would have to sale the ones I am not keeping I am not sure how to go about this, new to the chickens I also have one blue Ameraucana.

Not really sure where you'd get a Lavender roo right now, but are you sure you want one? You won't get Lavender EE's in the first generation since it's recessive, and I don't think you'd get any in the second either, since your females look to be predominantly Wheaten or Blue Wheaten in coloration. You have a pretty little blue Ameraucana hen though, have you thought about trying to find a Black, Blue or Splash rooster to go with her? .....or better yet, a pair or trio. If you only want to breed EE's, any color of EE rooster would do, and if you want to stick with the Wheaten coloration, the Wheaten colored ones are fairly easy to find.

If you want a lavender cockerel, I have one I was planning to cull. He has some blonde feathers on his back which indicates he has red leakage. He would be perfect for an ee project.

Let me know if you want him. I will try to post photos later.

I am sooo excited, I have 2 eggs I set from one of my girls in my incubator, and this morning I had pips in each! Happy B Day to me

Now I just hope they are by my new rooster, and not my old rooster Can't wait to get home, even though that won't be till late tonite!

I love this thread, I'm glad it has reappeared. I just got my membership packet in the mail last week or so, so now I feel like one of the "cool" kids, lol.

ooohhh! That IS exciting! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

Thanks! Came home to 2 adorable fuzzies. They hatched REALLY cleanly. Only bad new is one is a splash which means my old rooster is his daddy. So he is probally the daddy of the other chick, who is blue. Oh well, can't complain too much about healthy chicks! I have a staggered hatching running through this month, next are due in 3 days or so.
