I bet its the sun thats making your girls lay at least the sun here is making the girls happy and they are producing some more eggs. Hopefully they keep it up I have 3 orders to fill for a dozen eggs In the end of January begining of Febuary time slot

So many beautiful birds I cant even keep up with this thread!. I have been hatching out a lot of blues and a few blacks and so far anm so excited. I took a new pic of my eggs 2 days ago also and finally I got a pic that shows the color well.

I have noticed something though and that the very first egg I got from my splash was more greenish than blueish but it has (I swear) turned much more blue with only the first 3 she ever laid being more green. I kept them and blew them out but was somewhat disapointed at the time. But now if you look at my pic her eggs are umong the ones shown and they are not nearly as green as those first few were. I was unaware on how much the color could change. Maybe there was more bile in the making of those first few eggs????

anyway here is the new pic. FBCM on the top right, Ameraucanas on the bottom right, Arauacanas on the top left and silkie eggs on the bottom left for compariseon. The pic is unaltered other than cropping. I used natural afternoon light with no flash. I purposly turned the eggs so they would not be all uniform and have the same glare spots. I think this helped a lot to get a good pic.

ETA I got a color chart

so I am now able to see what number they are and drem of colors that I know exist cause they are on the chart. who else has one? we should all list our numbers as I would love to buy eggs from anyone who has A1, A7, or A8

mine sem to be d6, c15, c14, c7, b6, and I have one that is closest to an A9 which also happens to be from my favorite hen

Those are some nice looking eggs!

I believe most lavender stock originated with John Blehm. As his lavender stock is sold, individuals use thier blacks to create thier own splits and lavender. So eventually the lines will become more genetically diverse but they can be traced back to John.

Lavenders were developed by John Blehm, Michael Muenks and Harry Shaffer. John and Michael developed lavender bantams at first and then I believe only John went on with the large fowl. Harry developed some from a completely different start. I do think Harry eventually added some blood from John, but there is a lot genetic diversity there.

I have stock from Harry and John. I have crossed Harry and John's birds into my black flock which mainly consists of birds from Paul Smith. Paul has the best blacks in the country! So mine have genetic diversity also and this next year I plan to cross the two lines back together. This color does still need alot of work. Not only are the birds small, but I have noticed the eye color is off a bit and the lavender gene seems to produce poor feather quality. I think by continually outcrossing to blacks the color will be perfected in 1-2 years.

The lavender gene is also a wonderful tool for seeing if your birds are carrying any unwanted colors like red, gold or silver. These colors will show up on the splits and you can cull for them by doing test matings. I however, like silver in my blacks because it perpetuates the slate leg color instead of black. As long as I keep hatching birds without any bleed through it works for me.​

I wish my Araucana eggs were as blue.

Breeding is so complicated that just reading about it makes my head swim lol I have a lav cockerel from John Blehm's line but he is for an EE project if he would just start mating his hen

yep thats where I got mine, sent a check and it came

eta some of the colors are so nice I wish there was a name of the breeder that had the chooks that made them.
