Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Is the down in these birds blue grey? My salmon Faverolles have blue grey down and that is required in the standard and a desired trait. The blue salmons also have this color. That is assuming blue salmon/ salmon works the same as wheaten/blue wheaten.

They still have blue down on their backs- this was a Thanksgiving hatch- so 3 months old now. I'll have to look at my adult BWs down in the morning- if I can catch her!

BLUE EGGS

I got my BBS stock from folks who seemed quite reputable-garnered from info on the ABC forum-I purchased hatching eggs from two farms.
The eggs I received were blue, blue-green, and minty green.....no olives.
Yet at least one of my hens is laying an egg I would consider more olivey than any shade of blue.
Does my stock contain a mutt somewhere, or do they really vary that much naturally?

I'm still learning- but from what I know- they may lay an off-color egg, but you should not use them for breeding so the trait doesn't get passed on. Unless you're just making EEs- then it doesn't matter.

Can anyone tell me if Ameracauna eggs typically hatch by day 21 or do they take longer? This last hatch, everyone else was out already and the Ameracaunas had only internally pipped, not externally.

Anyone?

Thank you both very much, that is exactly what I needed to know. May a ask what humidity you incubated at for days 1-18 and then at lockdown and if what temperature your incubators were running at?

I am having horrible luck and don't know why.

I just do a dry incubation days 1 -17, and day 18 bump it up to about 65-70%. Same as any other breed. I have an LG without a turner- but it works- so......

I'm doing a fertility check/hopeful hatch of my splash wheaten roo over orps, rocks & cochins. Hoping for some blueish easter- egger-for-easter chicks to sell locally

He doesn't act very manly though- so I might not have any fertile ones in there. We'll know in a week.

So what are you going to hatch rustywoman?

I am using a Hovabator Genesis 1588 with an automatic turner. I keep humidity between 40-50% for days 1-18 and try to keep temp around 99.5 (but it has been running around 100 even) I bump the humidity up to about 75% at lockdown.
