HBuehler & I are having the same problem- but not sure if it's picking or what. It's very frustrating, and I have yet to get a solid answer. I tried to join the ABC forum to ask, but it keeps giving me an error code

Sorry!

The chances of breeding a lavender out of splits is low since you don't have any other lavender gene carriing birds. It would take a couple generations because if you breed split lav to anything beside lav or split lav, 25% of the offspring would carry one copy of the lav gene. You would be able to determine who was carring those genes either until further breeding. Then if you breed then back to their parent then you might get a lav to show up but again the chances aere low. I might have some extra roos (lavender, and black) to bring to chicken stock. I orderend from John Blehm so I will be swimming in chicks this spring.

Sorry!

This time of year, some of mine will molt their beards. Do you notice other feathers in their pens?? They will probly grow back in a little while

Mine's not molting..I posted a picture of him last week and as I knew but didn't want to go with Jean confirmed he's a smooth face guy he never really had cheeks at hatch He's now got a new address..now back to the drawing board but I have some of Jean's growing nicely all cheeks.

Back when I was breeding Ameraucanas, I had a few clean faced ones pop up. Heck, I even had one with feather stubs on the legs once. I quit breeding them, partly because I needed a different rooster (Scout had base color showing), but also because I started to see crossbeaked birds on occasion; those came out of Cree bred with Rivergait farms. Can't remember where Rivergait got their birds, though, but sure enough, had two clean faced ones out of one hatch. I had them for about 8-10 weeks and confirmed that they would indeed be beardless.

My two girls from Cree on both sides of the family have really nice beards, especially Nora, who also lays a very blue egg (though lately, all have been suddenly thin shelled for some reason).

Ohhhhh, you're killing me!!! I want Lavender chicks so badly. These are precious!

I put 4 eggs (Lav roo X Black/Lavender split pullets) in my Brinsea bator along with Marans eggs Saturday night and have my fingers crossed. Since then I've gotten 4 more eggs, but really don't want to use my styro LG, so I'm going to wait until I have about a dozen or so and get a friend to hatch them for me.

I gathered these 3 blue eggs from the pen yesterday. Not bad egg color at all for Lavender project birds, thanks to Jean and John!

There are 7 Black/Lavender Splits and 2 Cuckoo Marans (dreaming about Lavender Cuckoo olive eggers) in that pen. The Cuckoo Marans hen that layed the lighter brown egg got booted out, lol!
