I do not want to say more about who this breeder is because I have never brought this up with them, but when I say green, I mean green - as in every one of those eggs had a brown egg gene contribute to the color. I have seen blue eggs. I have EEers (non-standard Ameraucanas with two copies of the blue egg gene) who lay lovely blue eggs. I have seen blue eggs pre-washed, washed, and after being altered by time sitting in the fridge, so I know what I am comparing to. And this particular breeder is very vocal about how blue their egg color is, so I do feel that my surprise was justified - not one single decent blue egg. This is very different from a breeder such as yourself, who went out of your way to inform me that you may include some white eggs in my order and then you explained the reason why. That's great. That's honest and I'm thrilled to be receiving eggs from your beautiful chickens. If I were to have read your site, ordered eggs from you, heard not a word in response from you, but then received a dozen white eggs...... well, that would be very different. The other transaction with the breeder I was speaking about has always puzzled and bothered me..... Oh, and not a single one of the eggs hatched, but that was all me

Boy Howdy, y'all are going to make it really tough on me to stay away from BYC and get other things done!! LOL

Here's a couple of quick thoughts from what I've read that's posted since mine...

Herb&Teas, that's interesting. I've not found that yet. In fact, it's usually been just the opposite. They start out looking great and then fade with time and age. Same goes for my Welsummers.

Cynthia, you are most definitely gonna have to get some W & BW gals if you don't have any. The WBS variety needs a lot of work and we could use some more folks helping us out! Besides that, they're just darn looking girls IMO - humble as I try to be.

Meg, just so you know, I wasn't "concerned" about you or your comment. Rather, I just wanted to emphasize how much work I know a lot of folks have put into the breed and that I think that vast majority of them really care about their reputation and the breed's reputation. I didn't mean to belittle or diminish your comments or experience but rather just didn't want perhaps some Newbie's or casual onlookers to get a wrong idea.

For what it's worth, that reminds me, and not to beat a deadhorse but rather maybe just add a bit more food for though, there has been some discussion on the ABC Forum recently about whether or not the Club can and should take appropriate steps to ensure that no member brings discredit upon the Club. The Club is aware that there have been a few - and I emphasize "few" - complaints made about eggs that were received from someone listed on the Club's Breeders List. Hopefully, these efforts will help.

I found your post especially interesting about the blue egg changing color. I have one hen who is just wrong conformationally, no beard or muffs whatsoever, and black flecking around her neck, but she lays a gorgeous egg. I have her in my free range pen, but I think I will put her back with my Ameraucana roo and hatch some eggs for myself to see if I can keep that color and improve the babies a bit. Might be tough, because the roo has a small light beard, making me think he has only one copy of the beard/muff gene, if I have that right.

Where was I going with this......oh yea. It does seem that once I get the egg in the house and it sits for a bit, it lightens up. When I first get it from the coop, its just a very oooh aaaah egg. When its sat inside for a while, its still gorgeous, but not quite as rich. My marans eggs dont do that, what you see in the coop is what you get. Im sure its the difference between the brown and the blue.
