Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

My 4 Lavender Ameraucanas, 6 weeks old, were not in the mood to be photographed. They kept running off and turning their backs to me. I did corral them, and got some (not so good) shots ...

I like best the one where they are all hiding in the corner because they don't want to be photographed!

And right, that is a very pretty color.

Well, I hatched some nice little Blue Wheaten (probably some Wheaten and Splash Wheaten in there too. . ) Ameraucanas just a week ago, and finally got some photos. But one thing I certainly notice is that of all my chicks, even my Jersey Giants, the biggest is one of my Ameraucanas - This little chick is a MAMMOTH!! Biggest chick I've ever had.

Beautiful!! They are gorgeous!

I just got in contact with a farm in Ringold, GA who has some beautiful Ameraucana's. I found this man listed on the ABC website as a registered breeder. I know that doesn't guarantee anything but it's a start. Can anyone recommend what I should ask and what I should be looking for in his flock? I've read the material in the forums describing the characteristics of Ameraucana's, so I'll be as ready as I can to pick out these characteristics when I'm looking at his flock. But, my experience tells me I should also be looking at things like cleanliness and awards/ribbons; paperwork or documentation on who he's obtained his birds from, etc.? I'm just heading into this as "green" as can be. Maybe I should do a lot more reading before I go? Any recommendations?

thx,

CJ

Are you talking about the Garner's? I have a lovely wheaten roo from them, and there is a guy in Sweetwater TN that also has a lot of their stock. I'm waiting on chicks from him. From the pics- they look like great birds. I haven't seen their eggs yet- so that would be where I would start.
