Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

They are EEs- but lovely! The blue beard is so cool! Get yourself a wellie or marans roo and you'll have yourself a really colorful egg basket

As of day 22 we have 2 BW/W Ameraucana chicks and 2 out of 3 Welsummer chicks hatched so far-we're waiting to see what the last Welsummer egg does. Very outspoken group of chicks! We'll post some pictures one we take them out of the incubator.

"Re: Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birdsI have a question about the Easter Eggers, hope someone can help me Since the ee's are mixed, if I got ee's from say a ee hen that laid a pink egg or a light green egg etc. Would the offspring necessarily lay that color of egg? (I know with the olive egger it is a little more controlled because you mix a pure blue layer with a pure brown layer.) But what about the regular EE's?"

the color gene comes from both parents, not just the hen so unless you know what the egg color gene the roo carries there really is no way to tell unless you do it

Thank you that does make sense. I had erased the question because I realized this was the wrong thread LOL. Got sidetracked with all the EE photos

I guess I should get a flock of EEs to get the certain colored eggs I want and sell off the ones that lay the colors I don't want. I don't really need a bunch more egg layers but would like to have some certain colors lol.

Here is the original question so people will know what we are talking about (but I also posted on the EE thread as well.):

She is REALLY pretty!

Curious about tgrlily's chicks...the Wheaten/Blue Wheatens look like Ameraucanas to me(?) Is there something I'm missing? I know the legs aren't right, but I've heard they can darken with age (that may not be correct)(?)

I stayed up late looking through this thread looking for pics of 3 week old wheaten/blue wheaten chicks. All the ones I saw had the same leg coloring as mine. The only chick that had stripes at hatch is also the only one with different colored legs. I was going to ask if people thought I should hold onto them or cut my losses now, but I've decided to grow them out. I do think the one chick is an EE, as is one from this week's hatch.

Of the quad of W/BW chicks I bought from Jean at the last show, only the cockerel has dark legs, all the girls have white legs...so I'd say hold onto them!

Oh definitely hold on to them! I'm interested to see how the mystery chick finishes out. Even if the one is an EE- so what? EEs are awesome!!!!! It's a cool color so far too!

Congrats Hens and Roos! Pics!!!!!

I am in LOVE!!!!!!!

These are my new babies! They are so gorgeous I can't stop sneaking a peek at them. From PipsNPeeps and just like last time, they are amazingly gentle and love to be held. One of the little silver ones will instantly relax in your hands and lay down sideways. She seriously looks dead! She loves her cheeks/neck to be rubbed and won't get up from that position until you move her. (Declaring that she is a GIRL in advance)
