Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Im not sure that this is entirely true, as I think that is how the blue wheatons were produced, by using wheatons over blue. If you go to the chicken calculator, Wheaton over blue should give you all solid blue and black. If you then take one of the solid blues or blacks back to a wheaton, you'll get blues, blacks, wheatons and blue wheatons. That is probably simplifying, and I may not be understanding the chicken calculator, but thats how I see it.

Well, see, that's what happens when I just grab two colors out of the blue.

I was thinking the same thing. I had a hard time with the calculator when it came to using BW or SW. I want to put my SW roo over salmon favs and breed back until I get something similar to BW feather-legged EEs. I think they'd be so cute! I thought I would get all blues using that roo- but my last batch of EEs I got blues and black with copper. I must not be inputting (in the calculator) right or something!

To those who answered my Ameraucana questions: Thank you very much!

I am still a little confused, so, I am just going to call mine EEs until I discover wether or not they are of accepted colors.
It really doesn't matter to me which they turn out to be, because I just got them to be pampered pets not "Show Chicks".
I have 7 and they are only one month old. The coloring seems to change every other day, although one looks like she is going to stay black. I have named her "Atilla the Hen" because she reminds me of a miniature Turkey Vulture.

Black. Lavender is an all over light powdery gray color. When she's fully feathered, she might have a nicer all over solid black, but her color won't change.

Hey.. My chicks must be from the same hatch! Vigor is a good way to describe them! Wow are they active (I got a bakers dozen of BB/S from the Smiths.) Couple more days and they will be a month old. I have one big little blue Roo. He towers over the other chicks even at a month old, and is super friendly. Hops up on my lap then on my shoulder.

I must say I like the toe punch system the Smiths use for identification. It allows me to make notes and keep track of individual birds even at their young age...

My less than a week old BB/S Marans from the Bishops are healthy but seem docile in the brooder compared to the Ameraucana's..
