Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Yes they will darken as they age. A wise person (Jean

We have two birds that we think are ameracuanas they are 90 days old and this is the old breed they look like. I have posted a picture here the second of course is a dominique, if they are not them please tell me what you think they might be. Thanks

I just put up 2 pair of Jean's silver chicks on the 8week+ board

if anyone on here is up for a road trip..they are so beautiful but I have too many silver roos.Got to cut back on my extra's to make room for some new not related chicks to move in.

I went over to their forum and saw that they didn't have too much to say on it.

I may be wrong on this, but I suspect when they put the chart together, they collected as many different colored eggs that they could get breeders of true ameracaunas to send to them. I'm guessing that none were blue. How else could they have come up with a chart, just guess on egg color possibilities? They must have had shells in front of them, and they (like myself) didn't see any true blue ones.

Personally, I don't even think the background color of the chart is blue - more of a cyan.

The chart was originally made up by the araucana club and we were allowed to use it.........................

I just noticed on the side, in very small print, it says, "Every color has been sampled from actual dry fresh egg shell and matched exactly for printing." I guess it should also note, that none of the actual eggs were from ameraucanas. This makes me wonder how useful the chart is. Sure, we can try and match our eggs to one of the numbers, but it doesn't really represent the color differences to be expected from ameraucanas.

I got some eggs from another BYCer and this is what popped out of them! How old do wheatons have to be before you can sex them? What do you think my odds are here with males vs females?

I have to admit, they are the cutest chicks I have hatched out. Their muffs were so big, they were curling up and poking them in their eyeballs.
