I got my first W/BW egg from my April 1 hatch two weeks ago...and another started laying today.
They were 22.5 and 24.5 weeks old at first lay. I have three others from that hatch that are not laying,
but whose combs have reddened up. My Orpies have laid steadily for over a year and a half, minus broody time....
All my chicks hatched last fall (all breeds) were laying by early January/mid February, when the days are quite short.

When you think about it, we really only have at best, 4-5 months of daylight longer than 14 hours...
Yet I keep hearing they need 14 hours of light to lay. Is this a myth

I have 11 true Ameracuanas that are about 10 weeks old.. I have had them since they were 3weeks old.. They are sweet, lovable and very friendly little boogers.. Everyday, they do something else to make me fall in love all over again... I know I will have to wait until spring to get my blue eggs but it has already been well worth it! My only regret--- that I will have to give away most of the roos..
