Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

OK. I have had no chickens, only game birds. So I I researched all the usual suspects and was somewhat fascinated by the the whole Ameracauna vs. Auracana VS, Easter Eggers. Whatever breed people seem to like them. So here I go.

Ordered 12 EE eggs and 13 arrived. Put them in my 1502

pips&peeps :

It's hard to tell in pictures. I like the light blue and the teal eggs. As long as it is equally blue and green I will use the bird for breeding.

Is there a humidity level you use for better results different from game birds ? Why the certain colors for breeding ?

I've incubated quail and chicken egs together with the same humidity- just start the quail eggs 3 days later. No issues.
You want to hatch the blue-est eggs- that wayyou know that your birds will have some of those good egg color genes. Just like marans- you wuldn't want to hatch BCMs that lay light eggs.... I have hatched some not blue eggs, but it is an experiment with birds I pla to keep fr other projects.

Thank you for the information. Nervous about chickens. My game birds are pretty independent. Spoiled, but independent lol.

Two new pics of one of my Lavender cockerels from pips&peeps. He's right at 5 months old now. What do you all think? I know what I think, but non-biased opinions would be great. He's going through his first moult right now, so tail end is a little lacking...

I have Ameracaunas and Marans.
All Ameracauna cockerels were higher on the pecking order than the Marans Cockerels. The Ameraucana would put the Marans right down across the board. (Even though the Marans are physically larger.) As far as pullets, the Ameraucana though again much smaller physically hold their own with the bigger Marans and the EE's.
My 36 some odd birds free range so their is not much in the way of pecking order issues. Also with the Alpha Ameraucana roo, if any one picks on his girls they are sent running for their life..

ON

One of my marans and one of my ameraucanas got out and the marans really beat up the Ameraucana... I'm glad I got there when I did or my Am roo would have been dead.
