Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

First of all, both pips&peeps and Ilia are in Washington, both good breeders to get stock from. Second, if you put other color hens in with a wheaten flock, any chicks from those two hens would not turn out to be a recognized color, or if they happen to look like a recognized color, you'd have no idea what color chicks they would throw, and could really mess up your breeding flock, or the flock of someone else you sell them to. A way around this would be to take them out of the coop for a few days when you know you are going to be collecting eggs for hatching.

eta: The ABC will be a great asset to you for finding information and finding breeders. The forum on their site is great!

Thanks for telling me about mixing the colors. Thats something I am happy to know. I still think I want a blue and a black hen, but will seperate them before I go to collect hatching eggs. How broody are AM's? Like I said, I'm new to the breed. lol

Illia reminded me yesterday that she has AM's. lol I can't figure out how or why I forgot. I have heard good things about pips&peeps, but we have never spoken.

I really would like to experience showing at least on a local level. But I also don't want to go at it blindly iether.

If you can make it to the Stevenson show 3rd weekend in October, pips&peeps will be there, and so will I.

Some chick pics- These look like cockerels, the first two are of the same chick, this is the one I mentioned a few pages ago that had the light blue with red lacing.

Darker boy-

These are chicks from Sterling Sue, they are growing up quick. They too are BW/W.

There were two darker chicks which I am selling off as culls. They were striped as hatchlings! I like the dark beard on this one but I don't believe it is one that should be used for breeding (please correct me if I am wrong!) Anyway, she's sold as is the other like her and they will go to a non breeder home and lay blue eggs.

I definately would not use the pullet for breeding. Not only is the beard and muff wrong, she has stubs on her legs.

I am really like the color in the tail feathers of your young pullets. Maybe I'll have to buy some hatching eggs or a pullet or two from Sue.

Illia, He looks like he's going to be pretty, doesn't he? The pics were taken yesterday. The flash and lighting kind of whitewashed him but he is a very pretty shade of light blue. The other one looks darker blue but it doesn't show well.

Jean,

I love ya! Sharp eyes, I hadn't even noticed the feathers on her legs until just now. I'll check the rest, I think I will keep the two that have cleaner color. I can't wait to see how my two batches of babies mature.

I should get a nap, I've got to get up and watch for a predator later tonight.

One of my ducks disappeared last night. No feathers, no noise, no nothing. I also lost one of my kitties about six weeks ago.

Nighty night.
