My Salmon Faverolle girl that I had, was complete with have muffs and beard... and so does Geoffrey.

Here is what I got from the only egg that came out of my Salmon Faverolle hen when she was under Geoffrey.

Five toes and all.

He was beautiful. Looked just like a blue wheaten roo but with the faverolle hackles and saddle feathers... no duckwing coloring.

The only other possibility is an EE hen that I thought I had gotten rid of before that hatch, other than that it had to be from one of my w/bw girls under Geoffrey. (my blue wheaten roo.)

Sweet!

Well, here's the thing to consider - The "duckwing" is very likely a Faverolle x Wheaten simply because Salmon IS a Wheaten color, just silver with mahogany. So, crossing silver/mahogany Wheaten to Wheaten will give you some "golden" Wheatens with partial mahogany. (Notice the brown in the shoulder and along the back)

Thus, it looks like a Duckwing, but isn't.

JEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have my first chick hatched. Three more are pipped.

I don't know why but my first pip from last night died in the shell. I was so worried I wouldn't get any.

Four others haven't pipped and I'm watching this guy bounce them around and almost wish I had given cartons one more try.

Oh.....kind of funny. I looked at it as it was first starting to flop around and thought "WOW that's a HUGE chick!" My last 3 hatches were d'Uccles so yeah he's huge in comparison. LOL

always edited for spelling

Thanks to everyone who weighed in on the mystery of my roo's appearance. I think that BWA X Salmon Faverolle is the most likely explanation, also now that I think of it, he does have a single feather on one leg, so it all makes sense. Well, except for the random clean face.

Hey Illia, you chime in so often with great genetic explanations of color behavior, do have any favorite books on the genetics of poultry that you've read and found useful and could recommend?

I have not read one single book on chicken genetics. I only wish I have, the same as I only wish I had a bunch of books on all the things I love.

I just sort of learn stuff through the kippenjungle sites, talks here about genetics, and my own experiments/experience.

Nothing from my lone FBCM at all.

I may go ahead and candle later and and hope I see movement.

I have one that's a little spread out. Like the hips are out.

I think I'm going to put it into a cup until it stands straight. Should be running around with the others by now.

They are soooooo cute!

Thank you Jean!
