Yep Tyler, it's the blacks. My black bantam roo was a JERK until I gave him his first bath, I guess all the preening I did on him worked, because he hasn't gone after me since. I'm not fooled though, I see him watching me when I am messing with his ladies. I still don't let my guard down. And the black hens are IN CHARGE - they are much more aggressive with other birds than any of my other breeds or varieties. I wouldn't dare put them with any other birds. I even had one go after a LF Welsummer AND a LF Faverolles cockerel AT THE SAME TIME. They are friendly/timid with people though.

Are the blues and splashes like that as well. I only have one blue and she doesn't seem to be like that but I don't know. I'm not a fan of these blacks at the moment. I would love to find a blue or splash rooster that kind of acted like my wheatens.

I don't know - I never kept any blues that I hatched when I was ordering bbs eggs early this year - wasn't happy with all the clean faces and crossbeaks I was getting, ended up not keeping any of that line...

Well I'm definatly not getting rid of my blacks but I want to investigate this little rooster issue more. I don't really have the temporment to keep a mean rooster, so I'm going to start doing my homework

side note, does anyone know when is the best time to send in you John Blehm order forms for chicks?

I have this Rooster

Can someone tell me what you would pair him with to get birds that breed true.

I bought him because I thought he was really handsome..

I know he has willow legs and that will have to be culled for if I want to be true to the standard.

I am just interested on some suggestions and critiques

Thanks everyone for your time

I'd only use him for EEs or OEs. Besides the leg color he appears to have red/gold leakage which is also nearly impossible to breed out. You'd save yourself a ton of time and culls if you could get a rooster that is closer to standard.
I agree though- he is very pretty!

I sent my Blehm order in recently. The chicks are supposed to ship April 19th. Early this year when I wanted to order he was already sold out.
