I would never breed AC for meat birds. They look gorgeous, but not really good to make useful and productive hybrids.

They are cool looking, I've always wanted the cold hardy counterpart Svart Honas, but I'm on my 3rd flock here, so now I'm looking into the Fibro EE/OE that play well with my Marans.

I had my eye on the fibro EE myself. Only decided against it 'cause they're 23 bucks per chick

Ayami cemanis are certainly gorgeous birds, but they are unfortunately pretty much ornamental. Yes, they do lay eggs but not very many. Yes, you can eat them but they don't have much meat on them and they don't mature quickly

There's also the fact that they lay white eggs which while a purely cosmetic thing, kinda discourages me from getting them as I like my egg basket to be colorful. Yes, it is a bit silly, but is important to me personally

Color of eggs is pretty important to me too, and while white might make a good contrast to the more colorful... it's still a little boring.

This seems like a situation where you knew the right answer, but just needed to hear it from others. Good Luck w the LO Roo.

Might be the best solution as they are aren't the best for either eggs or meat.

Ayem Cemani are not good layer but the hens look like crows (crows are mortal enemies to hawks when they are in a group of 5 or more)I have not had hawks take anymore of my chickens. Maybe it’s just coincidence?

Well before you make your final decision. I vote cull both rooster chicks. Very often, flock mate roosters do not turn out, especially if they are the darling. With first time chicken people, due to inexperience they often don’t pick up on signs of aggression until the wreck. This is especially important if you have young children.

AND pullets are not ready for a cockerel until they are laying eggs. Flockmate cockerels get bigger faster, and can make their lives miserable.

So with that, your pullets won’t be laying for at least 4 more months, and one should not hatch pullet eggs… so really the earliest you should hatch would March.

The thing is, it is much better to decide I want a rooster because of these reasons, and then look for a year old rooster that answers that, than to keep an opps, and try and make him work.

Good to great roosters are easy to come by. In a few months, with some experience you might find you like certain breeds better, or others not so much.

So I vote let both go. You have years to do the many fun aspects of this hobby, work into it.
