Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Elias, thanx . I got him as an older cock from a gal who bought hatching eggs from a well known breeder here......not sure if its appropriate to drop a name in public, as I didnt personally do the transaction. I will do my best to get a better pic tomorrow, though.

I just have to vent (just a little). I realize that my complaint is not uncommon by any means, BUT - we went to the Ft.Worth SSR Poultry Show on Saturday.

#1 - the Ameraucana breed was POORLY represented - to the point that I've decided to show some of my birds next year even though we've never shown before.

#2 - some of the birds being shown were EEs (don't get me wrong, I love my EEs, but have sense enough to know that they are not show birds) and were entered as wheaten Ameraucanas! They were about the coloring of buff Brahmas, and had green shanks. The judge had d/q'ed b/c of leg color, but I was still steaming!

I was like, "It's not just leg color! Those aren't even the right feather colors!"

What on earth!!! My DH was like, "It's going to be okay." lol...I did get a little worked up.

Do they judges TELL people afterwards, "Hey, those are Easter Eggers." ???

I don't think so. Last I always hear, they just put a note on there saying things like "leg color" and such. I've actually never been to our county fair, but I definitely plan to show one of my Ameraucanas there and am also curious if the same disaster happens here. I know people out here think they have Ameraucanas, but I also know that the lady who runs the 4H tells some people that their Ameraucanas cannot be shown. . . So, who knows.

I thought about leaving my card with my website on the person's cage with a little note that said, "Hey, buddy, if you want to see a real wheaten Am visit my website," but, then, that would have been in poor taste & somewhat unprofessional.

I must say I like this thread. I have had many people ask me if I'm going to cross my birds. I tell them know I only cross to produce a meat bird. I can't wait tell my Amuricana chick grow up. I have all colors.
