Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi, can anyone tell me if this roo is Ameraucana at all? He was free, and his previous owner said he was, but looking at some of your photos, I have my doubts.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

I'm still learning, but I'm sorry that I really don't think this is an Ameraucana. He doesn't have any muff/beard, which is a standard. His comb/wattle also doesn't look right either. Maybe he could be an EE...?? I'm sure others on here would have more detail.

I have been oogling the blue wheaten Ameracauna chicks on the Hodges Farm site.
Can chicks from the same batch ne bred together or would it be better to try to get rooster from a different line?

I don't have any ameraucanas from Hodges, but I'm pretty happy with the other birds I got from them. You can breed the siblings together, but it's good to add new blood. Roosters aren't too hard to come by.

If they're all different colors, chances are they're EE's. Ameraucana breeders don't often breed more than 3 colors, and don't often sell hatching eggs as a big mix. But, photos or better description can help. Remember, green or yellow legs = EE. brown and black coloration in the form of pencilling or stripes = EE.

Thank you Illia, I am going to go out there & check their legs & feathering. It sounds like they are going to be EEs.

I recently contacted a hatchery off of craigslist that claimed to sell Ameraucanas asking which color Ameraucana's they had and this was the reply: .brown with gold, white, black w/shades of brown and black, cream with black and light brown and i have 1 wheaten." This sounds more like Easter Eggers does it not?

Since there's been lots of EE questions on here lately, just to clear things up, there are only 8 accepted varieties of Ameraucanas: White, Black, Blue, Buff, Silver, Wheaten, Blue Wheaten, and Brown Red. Plus Lavenders, which will be accepted soon. All other colors/color combos are probably EEs, OR Ameraucanas not bred to standard.
