Thanks. I had to help 2 other chicks this am that had been zipped since yesterday, and their feathers were starting to fluff out the zip, so I knew they were drying in there. I don't know why they did that, I filled the same exact water troughs I always do. Oh well, it happens.

I'm about to start getting into the Ameraucana breed. I already have two roosters, but gave away all of my hens (long story). I have one blue and one black rooster and I am in the process of buying some fertile eggs to hatch.

My question is this.... On the Ameraucana's Breeder's Club it has the Blue and Black as standard colors, but it does not have the Splash. Why is that? I was under the impression that if you have blue on blue you will have a 25% chance of Splash birds? I'm a little confused.

Just because splash is a color that results from the matings doesn't mean its accepted. The APA doesn't recognize any splash varieties that I know of. The aba does. That is a down fall just like they don't accept Splash Wheatens. You can show Splash as AOV.

I actually had never seen or heard of them until I was looking to purchase eggs again. I agree with you that they are really pretty. All the ones I hatched out last year were either Blue or Black. I had no Splash. The lady I purchased eggs from this time told me I will have a chance of getting Splash this time. I googled images and think they are gorgeous. I'm hoping to get mostly Blue or Black, but do not mind getting a couple of the Splash. Can't wait to see what I hatch out. I'm so excited!!!
