Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

The problem with that is everyone has a different camera and most everyone has a different monitor. The colors show up differently. And, everyone sees colors differently.

The picture I posted was taken inside with an older digital camera. You can see that it is a bit grainy. But I did not photoshop the picture at all except to cut it down. I feel giving the eggs a good contrasting background shows the color better.

I'm just saying we need to make the photo taking of eggs more uniform. There is variables with most things but you can regulate the constants like in a science experiment. You change the constant but the variables stay the same in a give situation.

Hello all,
My daughter and I are starting a flock of Ameraucanas for her 4-H project, and I have a breeding/genetics question. I have purchased b/b/s hatching eggs from two different sources, but will not hatch out enough to reach the size flock we hope to have. I have found a couple of sources locally who has Wheaten/Blue Wheaton Ameraucanas, but one person has winning show quality wheatons, but also have a black in with them, and talked of producing split blacks. I didn't think you were supposed to breed black with wheaton? Would that produce any thing viable for breeding or show, or would it produce an EE so to speak? Would you breed a bird with no muff if it was otherwise correct to the standard? How serious a fault is that to correct genetically ( the second source has a few birds with no muff) ? Thanks for all your help. Lisa

No, you do not breed wheaten and black together. I personally would stay away from that person. And, if you can find someone else that doesn't breed birds without muffs and beards go that route. It doesn't sound like you have found very reliable sources for birds.
