Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

FarmerVal-
I think bishops got their wheatens from Blue Poultry, or maybe it was greenfamily that did - I always get those 2 confused. Anyway- I also got some wheatens from them (BP) last year and had several clean-faced that I gave away and a really pale splash wheaten roo. If yours is a splash wheaten I would say it's a girl, otherwise you have one of those anomaly "white wheatens" . Keep us posted- I have yet to see one full grown. (or at least it's been a LONG time)

Speaking of Splash Wheatens...
I think I have a little Splash Wheaten cockerel growing out from my Paul Smith chicks!

The "white wheatens" fascinate me! Has anyone kept these and bred them?

At first I thought it was simply recessive white showing up; if it's sex linked, I can't help but wonder if silver is involved also, but that wouldn't fully work either if I understand the math correctly. While I suppose they wouldn't be Ameraucanas, I would think an autosexable blue egger developed off these birds here in the U.S. would be a development on par with the imported Creme Legbars.

I've got one of these white roosters who was supposed to be a splash wheaten Ameraucana. Gorgeous type and incredible personality. I've been hatching out easter eggers from him for awhile now and as soon as I get another breeding pen together I plan to put him in with my beautiful wheaten Ameraucana hen (he's related to all of my other pure hens) and see what they produce. I'll toe punch and keep good records of course.

Oh! Do you have some pics? What color are his offspring so far?

Did you get that from Phil last year at Hamilton???

It figures my first shot at Wheaten Ameraucanas I would get something crazy like this! And this chick was the only out of the batch to hatch.

Here is that same chick at a week or so old....

So this chick would not be good to keep and breed with other Wheatens, correct? If it ends up to be male, I do have two really pretty EE's that I could pen him up with I guess.

I was looking at the listing I won again and I noticed that some his girls are really light. Are these normal colors? Could I expect something like this? Or is mine completely different?

here is a similar listing with the same photos used: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=461496

Thanks
for all the help! I really appreciate it

I looked and saw what you are referring to. I wouldn't use a bird that light in the breeding pen, she's almost white. Which could lead to you getting a chick just like her......

The ameraucana SOP calls for a creamy wheaten color.
