Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Woo- day 24! I would carefully take the top 1/2 off the shell. You know- if you see blood, stop, if not just do it. Let them get the rest of the way out themselves in cse they still have some yolk to absorb. I have had sooo many sticky chicks- and even geese this year! Ugh!

Thanks I wish the pictures were better but its raining...

You're lucky, we haven't had a rain since October!

I am in the same boat as you! I am in East Central Florida and would LOVE a few splash or Lav Ameraucana chicks or pullets. Hatching eggs are too rich for my blood these days. I am just getting started with chickens and currently have 7 mixed mutts (5 weeks old) and a batch of shipped pure-breds in the bator. I just

Amerauanas and want some pretty blue eggs.

Anyone local to me that could help me out? I have a hatch due this weekend so if I could pick up and add them to my hatch that would be great!

Thanks

So I did end up helping 3 babies out, they were all very, very shrink wrapped. If I hadn't of stepped in there would have been no way for them to break free of the inner membrane. I'm glad I did it though. All 3 are cheeping and rolling around the incubator now, hopefully after they dry off I'll be able to put them in the brooder with their other hatchmates. I'm gonna keep a close eye on toes and beaks, so far everything looks good.

Thanks for the advice everyone, here's on of the new little ones.

Also, is this a Splash Wheaten cockerel?

Jeremy- Glad you got the little ones out! I had a similar situation a couple weeks ago. It was so frustrating because I had just had a great hatch with no stuck chicks. I tried to help mine out but it was deformed and I got freaked out. I like the cockrel- pretty!

OK- Anyone from LA or SD area want to trade me some Ameraucana chicks for my BLRWs? They are super cute, the parents are gorgeous, and bred locally

I may just have to wait til next season to buy some more chicks.

Happy day! My father in law (who has had backyard chickens forever) is absolutely smitten with my lavender chicks and wants to set up a breeding pen at the property he owns so I can set up a little flock.

I'm so excited! My yard is small and roosters are not really allowed, so this would allow me to keep them and start my own thing. Can't wait! My lavenders though are looking to be two cockrels and one pullet, so definitely need to acquire some more lavenders, lol.

Jeremy- I have had so many like that this season! (I don't usually hatch THIS much though)They aren't deformed at all- just shrink-wrapped or really really sticky. Poor babies

So happy you were able to save them! I still think that's an SW roo baby. Its cool how they can have different patterns.

Amy, this is the first hatch where I've had this many, I did help a Marans out on my previous hatch, too. I didn't have any qualms about helping that baby out though because I didn't plan on using her for breeding anything. I just don't want to promote weak chicks and/or poor hatchability in my flock, ya know?

I like the little SW guy, I'm trying to figure out a name for him. He will definitely be one I watch closely... Claude better hope this little guy doesn't outshine him in one way or another. I've always wanted a SW boy...

LarissaCluck, where are you on the Central Coast? If you're starting a Lav flock I'm glad you're close to me!
