Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Eggs and chicks can be sent here. The department of Agriculture just has some regulations and forms and stuff. Big hatchery's have no problem shipping probably because they do it all the time and have to keep everything up to date... i guess.
I understand someone not wanting to deal with the hassle of shipping here when it is so much easier to ship a state over, etc.
I just realllllyy want some Ameraucanas! lol
I think I have some leads now. Thank you all for the help.

Mahonri- Thanks for the offer but with these 7 I think I'm maxed out--my family may ban me from the feed store

HappyMtn-Thanks for the info. I'm hoping that these are real Ameruacana's since the first one I purchased sure looks like the pictures.

Yep! In my sometimes-not-so-humble-opnion they are the best of all chicken breeds. My Wheatens bring my family and friends so much joy. They are freindly, beautiful, charismatic, affectionate and purposeful. What more could you ask from....anything?

Add cuddler to the list too! Taffy has decided that I am fun to cuddle with. Puddin' and Sugar love to be affectionate as well.

I know that it might be on the thread somewhere but I have to ask. Is there differences you can see between a Ameraucana and a Easter Egger? What do you look for? Thanks a bunch from a newbe to this breed.

My understanding of the difference: True Ameraucanas lay blue eggs and always have a color attached to them; Black, Blue, Blue Wheaten, Brown Red, Buff, Silver, Wheaten, and White. You will also hear of Lavender and Splash Ameraucanas although those are not officially recognized colors at this point. Ameraucanas should also have muffs and beards. “Easter Eggers” are basically mutts (crosses) that often lay blue/green eggs. Easter Eggers often look like chipmunks early on with muffs and beards. Ameraucanas should have slate colored legs, Easter Eggers often have green legs. True Ameraucanas are generally only available from private breeders rather than large scale hatcheries or TSC. Lots of people claim to be selling "Ameraucanas" (because the chicks hatched out of blue/green eggs) but make sure you do your homework. There are LOADS of Easter Eggers out there masquerading as Ameraucanas. Check out www.ameraucana.org for more information on true Ameraucanas.

Perhaps some of the more experienced Ameraucana folks will add to this or correct me if I’m wrong.
