Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Walt,

Which picture are you referring to??? The ones I see all have green legs.

The three older birds on her website (full grown bantams) The legs don't look green on my monitor....they look slate. Computer monitors are notorious for not showing the same color to each person unless you calibrate them daily and even then everyone who looks at the picture would need to re calibrate daily for consistency.

Walt

Walt,

They still don't meet the color standards for ameraucanas. Please check this in your SOP.

Correct color for blue wheaten ameraucana hen/pullet:

Correct color for brown red ameraucana cock/cockerel: (she has now changed her website to indicate her bird is a wheaten)

dang, hate when you type a huge, polite response to someone and then try to post and the thread is already gone

Jean, I agree with you. The legs are green on my computer. Although some of hers are close to the standard, close doesn't make it a TRUE Ameraucana. I would have sent her some eggs next year if she wanted to hatch some for her kids to show

. Why burn the bridges of the educated that are just trying to help you

this happens every so many pages.....I didn't mind being "educated", actually accepted the info and moved forward with that(cancelled my hatchery order

) . It really shouldn't be a hostile topic, but I understand people getting angry with you telling them they were lied to.

One of the biggest problems that defines this whole thing, and I have said it before, IS TRUE AMERAUCANA NEED TO BREED TRUE! . If you get something that looks different than the parents that are the same color "variety" then you have EASTER EGGERS. There is NOTHING wrong with easter eggers at all, they are just not true ameraucana.

I have a lot of ee's now(thanks to my broody free range ameraucana girls

) My only pen of true ameraucana is my black but I just culled my black rooster because I need to downsize and am going to put the black girls with my splash rooster(who has lakenvelder and orloff hens now, was going to be a project but not anymore

I want to know who has some lf blue ameraucana with nice egg color? I hatched some eggs last year from a BYC'er. I kept 3 blues(to go with my blacks) and am extremely disappointed in their eggs color. I am putting them with my eating egg flock as I don't want to set myself back. The eggs they hatched from were a nice color but these look almost white and aren't quite a year old

. These have to be the worst color I have gotten yet and the parent stock was gorgeous. I have splash hens from Gary Ramey and they lay the bluest egg, so does my one Cree black hen as do the wheaten from Jean. I am going to collect all my splash and black hens to put with my nice splash rooster but wanted a few blue girls too.... so who has great egg color with their blues? I don't need them till spring as dh says we are done with chicks this year

but I like to plan
