We took our 10 year old daughter to Crossroads, had a great time. Wow, it was huge, this was her first big show.
She only took 2 birds, a Serama hen that she uses for showmanship and her bantam black Ameraucana cock.

Her cock did great, we always knew he was handsome and a gentleman but it sure is nice to hear it from the judge.
He took Best of Breed in junior bantams and then went on to take Grand Champion Ameraucana for the junior show. There were about 45 Ameraucanas in juniors, bantam and large.
One happy kid!

I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for blue eggs. I spent a LOT of money on chicks from Jean's line (actually from Jean, via another person) Now I am very sad. My big black bird will never lay any eggs. It's a ROO.

I have three roos and 2 lav/ silver/gray (whatever you want to call it) hens. Of course the hens are not developing anything that resembles red on their faces and probably never will. I am ready to just give up on blue eggs and consoladate the 2 coops and raise mutts. I can't get any of the money back I have spent (and it's a considerable amount) and I am Not going to get the egg colors I set out to have.

Anyone near me in NY want one of Jean's Black roos? I'll sell him for $15 bucks, full grown. (I did all the work, you can reap the rewards...I can stop feeding him) OR I'll trade him for a hen that lays blue eggs. I am never going to show my birds, so I'll take a blue egg laying cull from your flock for my wonderful black roo.

How old are your hens? From the same person that sold you the Black Roo? Give them time...Ameraucanas are notorious for keeping us waiting on their eggs! And, if you indeed have Lav Hens, you can use the pretty black Ameraucana roo to make more splits and improve the line of Lavs. I'm a Lav snob...I can't help but enable!

Now, now Muggs, you can't be a snob on here. LOL I was hoping you wanted one of the roos, actually and would give me any color hen for it. These roos are from Jean, and they are beautiful. I'll meet you half way with him.

I plan to keep one of the black roos for my lav girls, but the other one has to go. I have a Lav roo that can go too, but only to someone who wants blue eggs, not Show Quality birds....something about his coloring that isn't totally right....but he's a looker regardless. (I forget what the woman who sold him to me said regarding coloring, just that it wasn't SQ)

Yes his coloring was "splotchy", so he wasn't a good show bird but his beard was outstanding. One of the best I've had.
Here he is....
