Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

What color tail should a wheaten female have? This hen is nearly all cream with very very minimal black. You can see a little shading to the sides but for the most part she has very little black anywhere on her body. What kind of tail color will she throw to her chicks? clear tailed chicks or too much color?

HennyPen, the Wheaten female's tail should be black and they should have black in the wing primaries as well. Having said that, I've not seen a LF Wheaten pullet or hen yet that has great wings or tails. My best birds had about 50% black in their tails and getting better color in the tails and wings is one of my top priorities. It has been for some time now. Still, it's not where it should be - but it's better than what it's been in the past.

God Bless,

For the information of All Hands: Anyone looking to buy a late Christmas present for themselves or someone else in the form of photography gear, I may have some helpful info for you.

I just spent about 6 months researching cameras, lenses, flashes, you-name-it. In doing so I came across some excellent sites which allow you to do a side-by-side comparison of various brands/models and see the similarities/differences according to each of the various specs. There were also sites that provided indepth reviews on same. I also looked at a half dozen to maybe a dozen different sites to purchase from.

Even though I still wound up spending over three grand for everything, I could have easily spent another $1500-2000 for the same stuff if I hadn't taken the time to research everything like I did. So I'm offering to pass on what I learned to anyone who might be in need of such info. If interested, email me as I may not see your request on here.

Btw, now that I have my new camera, I plan to start a photo album consisting of a weekly pic for male and female from Day Old thru 1-year of age. I also plan to build a new website where I'll put these photos so all can see them when they have a question about what their bird should look like at a given age.

God Bless,

By "document", if you mean photo document and do the same for each of the four breeds, the answer is "Yes". At least that is my plan. Obviously, for the WBS Ameraucanas, Barnies, and Buckeyes, I won't be able to initially distinguish between the males and females.

God Bless,

If you don't mind, what brand of camera did you end up getting? Right now I have a EOS Canon RebelXT. One day would like to upgrade.
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for the info. It's unfortunate as this peachy color is very beautiful.

But thankfully she was already on my 'to be placed into a laying home' list and won't be used for breeding. All of my other hens have black on their wings and tails.

I wouldn't necessarily cull her from the breeding pen for less- than- perfect tail color. She might have other qualities worth passing on

Could be, but I dont' think so. She does have a little black on her wings. You can barely see the black in her wing at the top of the picture. And that's definitely black.. not blue.
