Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Question for the Wheaten breeders on this thread:

3 week 2 day old Wheaten chick hatched from eggs from Halo.

Keith or Katie?

Gonna say "boy". Push back the feathers on the back of its neck. If the shafts are black (not dark red) than its a boy.l

hoping for a few more to hatch but I doubt it today was day 22, but they were still hatching so I have not given up yet. 13 babies total.

I don't think I would say the Ameraucana Breed is "still early in the making". After all, the breed was accepted into the APA 27 years ago. Now, some varieties are still early in the making but that is a different story.

Quite but for those who are still unable to differentiate an EE from an Ameraucana, my comment may have some worth. A Dominique Breeder Can say with accuracy that that breed is old and would be able to define the difference between a barred rock and and a Dominique by quoting historic references. Not that a person trying to distinguish between an Ameraucana and a EE could not do the same but still it would be an easier task for the latter barred bird of both breeds. Boy that was a boisterous bit of blogging. ha ha

Hey folks,

Thought I would share a picture of our fledgling Lavender flock. These little gals and guys came to us via Cindy at Crystal Creek. We are excited to see them grow and develop.

Per Cindy’s advice we have them marked by egg color, and by parent flock.

Thanks Cindy for all your time and help in getting us started with our Lavender project.

Viviana with her new buddies!

Well I have 36 eggs in the bator. 4 are Olive Eggers ( Fred-Splash Wheaten Roo X FBCM hen) 6 are purebred very blue eggs from my coop with Fred (dead now) the roo over the girls. 5 are OE crosses. ( FRED X (haloWMaransXhaloBWAm) And a goodly number are purebred eggs from WMR. Anticipated hatch Feb 1st-2nd. (Ground Hog's Day Hatch)

I hope the chicks in the brooder will be feathered out enough at 31 days so they can go into the grow out pen. I'll probably have to run an extension cord and heat lamp in there just in case it gets cold.
