Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I sent in my membership form for the ABC the first of the year but have not heard anything yet.

I read that there was a computer problem, does anybody know what is going on?

Michael (the ABC secretary)'s computer crashed. He's working fast and furiously to get all of his data backed up into a new hard drive. Should be real soon! :)

I have a question on the Lavs and Splits. My one little lav does not have dark legs and seems to have lots of yellow down. Should I cull for that or will it change? I think one or two of splits have light legs too. This is my first AM hatch so I don't know what if anything will change. I have not seen leg color change in my other chicks though.

Donna,
You should put a picture up of the individuals. If the lavenders are very young they may darken up if the bird is a very light lavender color in its plumage. You need to put picture of the blacks if they have white legs they should possibly be culled depending on your situation and if you can acquire some quality blacks. Quality blacks are usually always available.

I just seen you said down that means they are chicks so you need to keep them for some time as not to make a mistake.

These are from my cell so not great

This is the lavender

I didn't take any of the splits. They are dark in places and light in others so they may darken up. I have some very nice blacks they are in the pen with jumbo, but are not laying yet but soon. The other pen with Med roo is a Lav (sister to the roo) and Black and she was the nicest of the bunch to my untrained eye. The pen with the lav and black is the only pen I am getting eggs from one a day so the Lav maybe the only one laying right now.

Donna,
That is the color some of them are and others are just complete lavender color. You will be fine with that chick as far as its color.

Hey folks,

Thought I would share a picture of our fledgling Lavender flock. These little gals and guys came to us via Cindy at Crystal Creek. We are excited to see them grow and develop.

Per Cindy’s advice we have them marked by egg color, and by parent flock.

Thanks Cindy for all your time and help in getting us started with our Lavender project.

Viviana with her new buddies!

You're welcome! Viviana looks like she is thoroughly enjoying her new babies. They will be very tame raised in the house and handled like that; we try to do it (for a while at least) with chicks we hatch here.
