Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

One of my roos (the lowest in the pecking order) came at the back of my legs last night. Grrrr.... I chased him around, threw things at him (missed every darn time) and chased him into the coop. My favorite lav roo saw the attack and my reaction and marched into the coop, chased him into the run and went at him. I thanked Randy (the Lav roo) and he went at him again. No blood on anyone, but the attacker was put in his place. I love my Lav Roo....he's such a sweetie.

I spent 10 bucks (as a chick) on the aggressive roo....he's gonna be an expensive Sunday dinner if he comes at me again, however. (He's getting a second chance since this was the first time he stepped out of line toward ANYTHING, including the hens)

With that said, anyone want to buy one of Jean's Black Roos....Or trade me a bantam roo for him (any breed, the Amerucana roos can't get low enough to breed my D'uccles, but it sure is funny watching them try). I bet he would be much nicer if he wasn't low man on a 3 man totem. I'm in Albany, NY area and would be willing to meet you half way if you were within 200 miles of me.

Yay for Randy!!!!

Last summer I hatched two wheaten ameraucana boys. No girls at all, just the boys. In the fall I ordered more eggs and rehomed the two boys. Lo and behold I hatched two MORE boys and no girls. I was about to give up on the breed when I found someone pretty close who was willing to trade. (Thank you, thank you, HappyMtn) So, I'm pretty sure that these three girls are some of the most treasured creatures on the planet right now.

Thoughts on the type of this pullet? (about 6 months old) Tail is growing out and is wrong color but what do you think about her? What are her good points and what needs improvement? Don't be shy. I'm learning and need imput.

She looks good- I don't know what you mean about the tail, but at least she has color where she should, and no black where she shouldn't (hackles). I would get a saddle for her soon, though.

What about wing placement? I don't know what an ideal wing placement is supposed to be.

The tail is supposed to be solid black right? She only has black on the top and it's not solid.

Who sells the best saddles? I bought some a while back that I'm not very happy with.

I found a pattern and directions for saddles. I wanted to make some right away but didn't want to jinx my pullets and not get eggs for ages. lol!

Christie it is sweet of you to post that link for chicken saddles. I hate seeing bald hens. I have my girls wearing them and it does help. I made a pattern that is almost the same with slight variation for different size birds.
