Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Goodness I wouldn't know which variety I guess. I did get them from a breeder. One's face makes me think of a hawk, One has lots of grey white and some light yellow down and my mutt ameraucana with an unknown father I think is lavender if that helps any. Thank you so much for your responses.

Are you forsure theyre ameraucanas and not easter eggers? if you need exact photos to make sure go to ameraucana.org and look at the photo section

I can't be certain other than to take the breeder's word for it for now. I can't tell much. Beak looks right. Little muffs but I know/think EEs have that too. I'll have to research the differences more carefully. Hopefully I got them from someone who knows better than me.

I just wanted to say this is by far my favorite thread to post in! Friendly atmosphere, helpful and quick responses, and there's always daily traffic to read and keep me occupied! Thank you thread participants! (here's a pic of Blue @ 10weeks)

Thanks for the color chart!

My Ameraucana chicks are 3 weeks old and are by far the least social of my 13 chicks. When hand feeding they stand in the background waiting for what the others drop or for me to throw it on the ground for them. Otherwise these chicks are wonderful and I think they will be the most attractive of my standard flock. Is this breed a little anti social or just my chicks?

Sorry. I did not read all 1500 posts :)

Sounds like my 2 black cockerels from Jean! Blues, also from Jean, hatched/brooded at the same time are over the top friendly but the blacks are more reserved, including the black pullet. She is bolder than her brothers but still not as bold as the blues. I figure - anything poison in what I hand out - they blacks will survive because everybody else eats first.

They come for the treats eventually, they just aren't the first.

So this is Rusty the Rooster. His daughters (mothers were RIR) lay green eggs. The fellow I got him from said he was Ameraucana. I got him for free so not concerned, just curious.

Im concerned about the size of his comb, but im no ameraucana expert! so wait for someone elses advice!

They are beautiful birds! the one in the 2nd photo seems to have a little black were she shouldnt, but they dont look too bad. might only want to breed the one in the 1st photo though. I'm not for sure if the wheaten feather pattern is show worthy but they are gorgeous birds! http://ameraucana.org/scrapbook.html here's the ABC official website, click link to see the photos of ameraucanas

post a photo here and we can help...
plus we all like chick photos

That would be great! Thanks!!

Their stand offish behavior may have been related to the snacks I was bringing out. Once I brought some left over chicken out for them they were eager to eat out of my hand and came to check out what else I had brought. They were uninterested in my other goodies.

They are all 3 weeks.
My mutt. Unknown roo x Ameraucana hen. I think HER coloring will be very pretty. She's not feathering well and is under the light with the baby silkies.

My girl I think. Feathering faster on wings and squater body

My roo. He often stands like he's on guard.

And the pair...
