Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

After the power lines down for hours fiasco, I ended up with a decent hatch. They were a little late, and the hatching took longer than normal, but they DID hatch! Unbelieveable.

That's good to hear, Cindy. Don't know if you saw my reply to your post a while back but I had the same thing happen. Aren't you glad you didn't toss them!

God Bless,

Jean, they're FABULOUS!! I hope you will keep us updated with pictures as they mature.

Speaking of maturing, I'm VERY pleased with the blue pullet AND cockerel I hatched from your eggs. They are really nice birds. I will have to get some updated pictures posted for you. I think you will be pleased as well. Very nice type on both of them. They will be 19 weeks old this weekend.

Hi, Seth - here's my expert opinion:
1 - blue or splash wheaten girl
2 - wheaten girl
3 - wheaten boy
4 - blue or splash wheaten girl
5 - wheaten boy
6 - wheaten boy?? maybe??

Keep in mind that my expert opinion is based on absolutely nothing.

I did read somewhere that the boys tended to start off with darker neck/back feathers...
Good luck with your adorable peepers

heather, darling babies! Looks like you may have a girl and a boy, I know, too early to tell, really it is, but I have fun looking at the wing tips as they start coming out and then taking a quick "guess" at it.

How do you tell if they are boys or girls this young? I have Silver Ameraucanas. This is my second successful incubator hatching with 8 chicks! Now that I think I have figured out the incubator I set 20 eggs today.

This one on my hand I believe is a girl. She is now 5 weeks old and mothering the chicks pictured above.
