Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Lavender Ameruacana chicks have got to be the cutest chicks.
Do the adult lavs keep their pretty color? My lav orps' feathers turned a little brownish at the tips, but returned to their lovely color after molting. I was just wondering if this was the same for lav ameraucanas.

The goal is for them to stay a beautiful silvery lavender. Some of mine get brassy blond high lights, but I am working on it.

I have been meaning to post pics of my Ameraucanas to see what you all thought. I got some pics of my cockerel today. Let me know what you think of him, and please be honest! He is about 6 months old.

Oh, btw, I have been very very pleased with my bbs I got from a local breeder! My 3 girls (all black) started laying right around 5 mos of age, and they lay every single day. Their eggs are pretty big, too! They lay bigger eggs and more often than my hatchery Exchequer Leghorns the same age! I have been very disappointed with those darn ELs!

I just wanted to share some good news - so far.

I set 20 of my BW/W Ameraucana eggs on Saturday. Five days in and all 20 are developing! I cleared out my clear/undeveloped bantam Cochin eggs out and set another 8 Ameraucana eggs since no one was interested in my auction. That's okay. Gives me more of those gorgeous turquoise eggs Peachick's line is known for. Sadly, the incubator's full and I have no broodies (Silkies aren't earning their keep), and I am becoming overrun with eggs! I'd hate to eat them...

Check it out. These are most of my pullet eggs from today. 2 Leghorn eggs, 3 Ameraucanas, and 1 Penedesenca. How is it that my Ameraucanas and Penedesencas are laying bigger and more often??? lol!

So excited! I got my first chocolate chick from my split roo over bantam black ameraucana girls this week. I actually hatched 2 but one didnt make it. I have 2 that are first gen with a chocolate orp roo over black AM females, as well, but this was more exciting because it's closer to full Ameraucana. This is my first time working with a project color in my Ameraucanas too.

Congrats Tricia!!!

Seth, Penedesenca is my favorite breed. I spent hundreds of dollars ordering more chicks this spring. Right now, I have a pair of wheatens and a partridge pullet. My new batch of Partridge chicks is coming next week, and I have an order in for more wheatens, but I haven't heard yet when they'll be coming. They are AWESOME! My partridge pullet lays every day and her eggs are already size large at 6 mos of age. My wheaten's eggs are still sm-med, but she started laying a few weeks after my partridge, so I am assuming they'll be larger soon. I like them so much, I may get rid of my other breeds, except maybe my bantam Andalusians and my Pyncheons, and just focus on Penedesencas and Ameraucanas for my large fowl birds. I really love them best. They are both great foragers, which I love in a chicken. And smart enough to not get eaten by hawks, etc.
